Friend had a cable break on his 25 Yamaha so I let him use my boat with a 20 horse mercury 4 stroke to duck hunt til he got his back. First day another acquaintance ran into the back of my rig with his boat and smashed the cowling. Have you ever priced a cowling? Current river Marine quoted me $765. Without decals probably. Forgot to ask. How can they with a straight face price that part for that price??? 250-300 should kill it.

Because it is not a part they routinely stock. Most of them time you have to order then they build. It's a crying shame. Check Ebay, see them sometimes on there.

don't have 5 wives. besides my friend is very good to me when it comes to duck hunting. I am old and decrepit. He carries almost all the load. in reality and figuratively. without him I couldn't do it.
I would think the "other acquaintance" insurance would have to cover it. Or possibly all three of you could pool money for the cowl replacement.

i would take it to local body shop that does fiberglass work and see if they could repair it first. that's how i fixed the one on my johnson a few years ago

Could be worse..... cowling for my 250 verado is over $1600
we had one fixed at a local boat shop several years ago. ours was fiberglass. so any boat repair shop should be able to fix it, for a lot less money.
