River is predicted to hit 48.5' on January 13th at Arkansas City. The river crested at 53.1 in 2011. I'm not sure if the predictions take into account last nights rain. I have several friends that are busy moving furniture, raising or moving houses and hunting camps. I called a very good house mover today for a friend they are booked solid moving and raising structures. This could get interesting with the water this high this time of the year.
From the looks of all the water in Okla, Ar, and Missouri, Il it I going to get real interesting again this year. Delta going to be flooding so probably going to hold a lot of water in big 4 again which if we keep getting rain all over we are going to have another high water spring. Going to be bad for lots of folks especially for those affected by the Arkansas this year. Already some bad flooding off some of it's tributary's.
I hope the big 4 do have a high water spring. Gives the fish a little more of a chance, and plus I like to jig in some certain ironwoods and grenada needs to about 210' for that to happen... I hate it for the folks with places along the miss river though
Farther North here, but this is expected to be worse than the flood of 1993 around Ste. Genevieve, MO., and that was a record flood. It's getting really bad up here. Friends who farm the bottom lands along the Mississippi have moved all their equipment to higher ground and are trying to move grain as we speak. Not good....
A cousin is sending pictures and video of the Branson, MO area. A lot has been built on the river/lake front and it's all flooded.

I hope they are crying wolf. V'burg is just under 38 feet now and is projected to climb nearly a foot a day until the 3rd if January. (That's on the 5 day forecast). I can't see it rising

11 more feet by the 16th. Of course we at Eagle Lake are more concerned with Steele Bayou than the river. But a flood is a flood is a flood. My house is gonna be just as wet either way.

In 2011 you didn't have to live along the river to be flooded. The tributaries backing up flooded areas that hadn't been flooded in over 100 years. The flood was 9 miles across from St Charles, AR to Watkins Corner just west of Marvell. Lots of folks homes, grain bins and farm shops flooded, several had new homes. I'm 53 and never dreamed that some of those areas would flood like they did. I realize that you can research flood plane maps but I guess i just don't expect to see a 100 year flood in my life time. Some of the ones that built homes, grain bins and farm headquarters in those areas probably didn't expect to see it happen either. The 2008 flood was bad but didn't come close to 2011 or the potential of this one due to the time of year that this flood is occurring. We could still have a lot of winter and spring rains to come. Historically the next few months are our highest rainfall months.
The extended forecast looks good right now hopefully this forecast will hold for the next few weeks. I have a friend that works for the COE, his comment was that they are having some difficulty figuring out just what the crest will be. Flood waters are coming from multiple areas this time.
Just watched local news for memphis. They are saying 48.5 here. Last time it got to 53 here. But with all the water coming from so any places at the same time no telling what it is going to do. And like you said no telling when another round of heavy rains could hit and really mess it up even more.

Going to 60 feet in Greenville. Moving everything upstairs at camps at catfish point. Going to close our deer hunting west of 61 here in about 3-5 days. Got deer everywhere in every patch by the levee. Flood stage is 48. Lake Washington is rising about a 1/2 inch a day from all the springs pushing so hard. Here we go again. Here's hoping wolf doesn't flood again and wreck all the gains made by the fishery in the last few years
I'm sure wolf & bee and eagle are gonna get it again. It ruined both of those lakes in 2011. Thanksgiving of 2011 is the last time I caught fish on bee. Really stinks to have a Great Lake & it's on the come back & get hit with another flood.

Hey Scrat, are you guys affected on your lake by what the Ms River does?
No our river the chickasawhay runs into the pascagoula river. But it gets out and floods bad also when getting a lot of rain like this years. Okatibbee and archusa are the flood control reservoirs that controls our chickasawhay river.
Flood of 2011,
At Memphis, Front and Beale were closed due to high water. A traffic barrel was in the intersection, the light on top was under water.
At Lakeview the water was over the railroad tracks. CN/IC issued a 5 mph speed over the area trying to keep water from getting in the traction motors.
Tunica Cutoff, a lot of homes were flooded out. Some of the lower homes on stilts were flooded. A lot were tore down and removed. Some have been rebuilt a bit higher.
Last night's news showed people moving things to higher ground.

Yazoo Miss Delta Levee Board (YMDLB) usually stays on top of it. They have closed the Levee to travel and we'll probably have to move our livestock off. They have lowered the expected crest at Memphis from 43 back to 41. Last time it was this high in January was 1927 & 1937. THIS DOES NOT BODE WELL! I'm mighty afraid we're in for a record breaking year. Everything is full almost everywhere. All the TVA system from Chickamauga to Kentucky Lake are full. COE reservoirs (ARkabutla, Sardis, Enid, Grenada) are nearly full or full. The St Francis is full, pumping station at Marianna has all 7 pumps running. Does anybody have any information on Missouri? All I know is the COE said they were NOT going to open the "Floodway".

The Mississippi River flood wall at Cape Girardeau, MO., is 20 feet tall....water is within 2-2 1/2 feet and not crested yet. Yawl south better get ready... it's comin.

MDWFP Officers to Enforce Levee Closure
Jackson - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks(MDWFP) is reminding the public that the mainline levee from Vicksburg to Tunica is closed due to the current flooding.
"No sightseeing or joyriding will be allowed, which may cause deer and other wildlife to retreat back into dangerous floodwaters," said Colonel Steve Adcock, Chief of MDWFP Law Enforcement Bureau. Only landowners, leaseholders, and emergency response personnel are allowed on the levee and only for the purpose of evacuating people or property. Citations will be issued to anyone found to be in violation of this closure."
The MDWFP is currently patrolling the levee around the clock to ensure public safety and protect the wildlife resources in Mississippi.
