I have always single pole jigged around tops, brush piles etc. using a cable steer trolling motor. Last year I decided
to try spider rigging. Bought all the gear, including a terrova I pilot. I love the terrova when spider rigging, however,
I find it almost impossble to stay tight to a brush top etc. using the foot control. Can it be done?
Yes it takes a little while to get the hang of it. I use my terrova for every thing. One's I got it down I love it. Just don't give up.

I use 2 trolling motors. One on front (ulterra) and one on back (modified endura 40). I can stay put purdy good using these 2 motors and the magnetic heading on the point 1 antenna. I spend a lot of time driving trol motors though.
The way I do it with the foot pedal- DONT USE THE PEDAL STEERING!!! You dont have the feel for the pedal as you do on a cable driven pedal. Instead put the constant on to "on" bump speed with speed knob and use the left and right buttons on the lower part of the foot pedal. If I want to stop I just bump the speed dial to 0 with my foot or bump the constant on button "off". Thats how I do it.

I bought minn Kota quick detach system, like you I have an electric steer for pushing and pulling and I switch out motors when I'm jigging to a cable steer. It takes about five minutes and I'm ready for the water. The only down side is you have to now which style of fishing your going to to do before you leave for the lake.
I hate those noisy remote controlled motors . I use the old style foot controlled Minnkotas ( 70 Maxxum ). Have used the others but did not like the hand remote or the foot control . I like stealth sneaking up on brushpiles in clear or shallow water and think motor turning noise can hurt . Ones I fish with have those remote controlled motors for spider rigging but have seen the light for verticle jigging .
JP2, yes it can be done, practice is all that is needed.

practice fish an see if I do it with terrova.
Practice has done it for me. But you really need two boats.
I learned very quickly, that you need a marker to go with the I-pilot in open water, Mark it and it is easy to keep it there. Try it you will like it.
I have a terrova and it it is a bear to keep on a brush pile. I haven't tried with the foot pedal to see if it is any better.
I had a Terrova on my last boat and I loved it for spider rigging and longline trolling but I prefer a cable steer motor for fishing over brushpiles. Since I've been doing a lot more single pole fishing my new boat is getting a Fortrex.
Well before we had all these high tech toys we used a piece of conduit pushed into the bottom then tied to the cleat on the boat Old man power pole lol. I have to say putting a marker buoy out helps a lot when you are trying to hold near submerged brush . Practice practice practice or go old school
I use two anchors, one off the bow and one off the aft. Stretch them out 50 or so (further for stronger wind) from the boat in opposite directions. I let the wind push the boat so the port side is closest to the crib/brush pile. I stay off about 20-30 feet or so, short cast with a slip bobber and minnow. With practice it only take a minute to set-up and beats the heck out of trolling motor.
