Spend a few mor dollars and get the Terrova and go with 80 pound. You will be much happier in the long run.
I agree with cray.
go as big as you can afford. varible speed, not 5 speeds.
Get the MK Terrova....80 lb.
Terrova 80# with I -Pilot
Thanks for all the replys. Don't know if I can afford a 80lb.
I ran a Powerdrive V2 Co-Pilot 55 pound on my 1860 Horizon for quite a while. When I got into longlining, the 55 was OK but I went to a second deep-cycle battery in parallel so I had much longer run time. As I got into pulling cranks more, I had to go to the Terrova I-Pilot 80. You should be OK spider-rigging with the 55 on all but high wind days. If the 70 pound V2 is still available, that might be your best option. Grizzly Jig used to sell some factory reconditioned MinnKotas.

I was leaning toward a 55lb thrust because it's in my price range. It might be alright. My boat is aluminum so it's doesnt weigh to much. Spider rigging is all I'm gonna use it for and casting on brush every now and then.
I have a Alumacraft Pro 175, 17.5 foot long with a 50 merc. I have a 55# Minnkota Edge, not enough trolling motor. If there is light wind or current it really struggles to pull the boat around. Really wish I had a 70 or bigger. I don't have storage for 3 trolling motor batteries
I might have to get a 70lb thrust then. Don't want batteries in the back tho. I run in shallow water.
mine are in back, I have 2 trolling and a crank. I can go pretty shallow
I'm running the powerdrive v2 55# with co pilot on a 1756 xpress. If all your wanting to do is slow troll it's more than enough. I've never had a problem long lining with mine, even on windy days. As is said on here many times go as big as you can afford. Who wouldn't love the #112 pound thrust ul terra with the auto stow and deploy? But I can't afford it. If the powerdrive is in your price range get it, I'm pretty sure it will move you boat around it does mine.
I'm still deciding which one to get. I'm gonna order this week. The only thing about the 24 Volt is having to buy 2 batteries.
Have you ever used a Powerdrive foot pedal? That is one of the reasons I got rid of mine. If you get one, and decide to add an iPilot, you lose the foot pedal. On a Terrova, you get to use both the remote or the foot pedal. Something to think about.
I have to agree with Buzzsaw, The Terrova 80 W I-Pilot is the best way to go. FYI - Bass Pro has a 6 month pay plan, no interest.
The terrova foot pedal does look easier to use. Im still thinking. Thanks for the input.
