So I have purchased a couple of 3 rod sets of Hi-Teks rod holders and had a question on installation. I will be mounting them on the front deck of a Pro Gator 178v.
If I installed them 4"s in front (or off to the side) of my knee while sitting in the front seat will that be about right for spacing?
Just don't want to drill anymore holes in the front deck than I have to!
I would get someone to hold them while sitting, that way you can move them around and see what fits you best. That is my plan anyways. I am hoping to mount them as close to the edge of the boat as possible, probably at 45 degree angle from seat.
I have mine 6 inches in front of my knee so I can grab a pole without having to bend or lean way over

I guess there are 2 things, you don't want to bump them with you knees every time you turn around, but you also want to be close enough so if you catch a fish on a middle rod you can reach the line & lift the fish into the boat.
Any other thoughts or ideas before I break out the drill???
I'm a measure twice & cut once kind of guy when it comes to modifying the front deck of the boat.
Be sure you put them where you dont have to move one everytime you raise or lower your trolling motor.
I bought an extra base to mount in the center so I could run 4 out the front off the one holder if I choose to.

Here is what I do when helping someone install holders. Get a piece of plywood that will fit in the are you are thinking of mounting. Mount holder then sit in the seat and move it around with a rod in holder so you can find your sweet spot. Nothing worse than being bent over all day reaching for pole or bumping it every time you move.
This is what I did & it worked out good. I think I will order a couple of extra bases from Scott & mount them to be able to use different configurations in the boat.Quote:
