I have to buy a new cranking battery for the old 90hp nitro.
I have always been a pop top interstate man but I want to go maintenance free this time.
Any advice on what kind to buy would be greatly appreciated.

The best full replacement warranty, and the retailer or wholesaler you believe will back up without crying about it.At least 27 class but even a 29 class would be good if it will fit, just go ahead and get dual purpose crank, troll.
Or...do what some guys do.Get a car battery with a long warranty and don't tell them you are using it for marine.
I have had great luck with the Walmart batteries. Walmart is everywhere if you have an issue, but I never have. Usually get 4 years out of them and I fish every week.
I been using Walmart batteries for years and trickle charge after each trip. Never any problems and run the trolling motor a bunch.
There are very few companies that actually make the batteries themselves, and they make everyone else's batteries, so it really depends on where you can get good service, and price, and the best warranty you can. Maintaining the batteries is the key to getting good service and battery life. I use WM batteries, and usually have to replace the TM battery after about 3 yrs, but I figure it's a cost of enjoying the sport, just like ammo/guns for hunting, or gas for the motorcycle, etc., Cranking batteries can/do last longer but if you run several FF's, you should get as large a battery as will fit in the space.
Thanks for the advice fellas. Terry
Hey Terry I bought one f r om all pak there on Seneca have had no problem at all
I plug mine in as soon as I get back from fishing, every time.
That is the key Redge plug it in after every use. Cranking battery should last longer than trolling motor battery.
Buying the biggest battery that will fit in boat is good to more power is always better
Just got a Wal-Mart deep 27 with 750cca; more cca than my old one.
I would have to break out the manual, if I could find it, but I think my 1995 oil injected 3 cylinder Merc charges all the time at 2 amp.
My cranking battery used to be the last to get charged; sometimes the day before I go out again. After reading this it will get charged like the others; as soon as possible... Thanks again Terry
Get a dual bank charger then all you have to do is plug it in and forget it after use.
Not to steal this thread but if you had a 24 volt trolling motor wouldn't you need a triple bank charger
had bad luck with onboard chargers; the last time was on a holiday at lake fork.... Terry
What 3bank would you recommend???
My BPS two bank is still going strong. It is a 2000 year model. I recently sold the boat and just bought another one from BPS. If it lasts and works as well as the other one, I will be more than happy. So, I would recommend their 3 bank charger. Their chargers are made by another company, Pro Mariner I think and you can buy under that brand also.
Someone chime in if I got the name wrong, but it was something close to that.
I've got one of cabelas brands on mine have for couple years and haven't had any trouble...I'd make sure I got the biggest one tho.
I have a 2009 lowe. Bought from Cabelas with their dual charger. Charger still going strong. Great stuff. Just make sure you plug it in every time you stop fishing. THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVISE EVER GIVEN ON BATTERIES
