That's strange, would think that weir would have stopped them from getting in there.
So sorry to let the word out. One jumped at least 6' high and 15' across water, had to weight 12/14#, we saw more, all bright silver. We fished all the way down to the weir and saw no fish of any kind, except the carp. We had down and side imaging units.
The weir has silted in heavy over the years. Water has been going over it for 6 years that I know of.
Silver carp will ruin Sardis if they make it to the main lake!!!! Has ruined many good fishing places already along the river oxbow a that are inundated with them.
Sad, Sad!!!~!
It did not take long at all for the lower lake to be taken over by this invasive fish. Spring of 2014 was pretty good fishing while spring of 2015 a crappie seems not to exist in its waters. Heartbreaking for sure as I grew up spending my summers on lower Sardis with my retired grandparents. I have everlasting memories there and to think the fishery has been ruined is a hard pill to swallow.
It's a shame for sure. Sorry for you to.
10 more years and that's all we will have to fish for. Wonder if SilverCarp.com is already spoken for.

They taste good, but I like crappie better, There has to be a answer, hopefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going to take guided Asian carp hunts. Weapon of choice 12 gauge. Clay targets will be forgotten about. Should be a market for it.
12 Gauge it is.
Yes I think so to. It's just a matter of time before they reach the main lakes one way or the other
Saw them catching n cooking some on a TV show. The host was skeptical at first but he said they were really good
Trust me if they get in the big 4 it's over. I don't care what they taste like👍 Hope Game an Fish are on top of this?
MDWFP needs to prohibit using baitfish from the rivers and lower lakes in the main lake. All we need is a few fingerlings in there to kill our fishing! Enforcement would be the problem though.:twocents
living up here on the banks of the mississippi river i can tell you guys they will ruin crappie habitat quickly. one thing ive noticed is when we catfish the river in the summer we use throw nets to catch shad. most of the time the young silvers are mixed in with the shad. if you aren't paying close attention you can easily get them mixed up especailly if you catch a mess in one throw. flatheads seem to prefer live shad so we try to weed out the silvers and kill as many as we can but it makes no difference. point i'm making is if a catfisherman goes to lower lake to catch shad and then take his haul up to the main lake it could just snowball from there.
"If bait is captured below the spillway, it should only be used in that spillway," Riecke said.
Now if MDWFP will pass this rule.
Its inevitable, eggs from a crane's leg, transferred from your boat when you decide to try the main lake after fishing in the spillway, live bait caught below and brought into the main lakes, it will and like Pops said, most likely has already.
Was watching a guy fishing near engineer point today. He got hung and hit his TM on high to back off. About that same time, I saw a large 4-5lb or more fish jump fully out of the water behind him. Could have been a bass, I guess. The sun sure did glimmer off it's sides though.
Let's hope it was a bass. What about a striper?
As many boats that fly around sardis in the spring somebody would have seen one for sure then. Hopefully they will stay out of the reservoirs.
