Let's Talk About Poles

Hello everyone, I posted a question on the main forum and didn't get but two replies so I thought I'd ask here. After Christmas I'm going to make an effort to learn this spider rigging and longline trolling, mostly long lining from the back of the boat since I have no depth finder up front. I'm wanting to start off with four poles that I can use for pushing and pulling and I'm thinking 12 footers would be easier to handle since I've never done it . Talked with the folks at B&M today and he recommended a 12' Bucks jig pole. I may put a couple of these on my Christmas list but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks for the help and if any of you are ever on the lower end of Ckarks Hill and run up on someone in a G3 boat that looks like he doesn't know what he's doing just ease on over and speak.

that is a loaded question about poles !!! if moneys is no object then go for the best you can buy now if you want to save a little moneys and make sure you are going to like this type of technique of fish then IMO because I have fished with these poles you can't beat the 12 foot panfish special non graphite that you can get at Grizzly jig company and if you decide you like this technique upgrade to the graphite !!! here is the website !!! hope this helps !!!

Hey Mark, I am set up with a set of 12's and 14' rods for spider rigging but for a rod you can do both with the 12 footers are the way to go. You may also want to check out the Southern Crappie Rods, they are very reasonable priced and for 20 a rod you can get the Pinnacle Limit 12'ers. Been using my Pinnacle rods for a long time and they are still going strong after a lot of fish caught with them. Grizzly Jigs use to carry them

I would talk with Ed Duke at Southern Crappie Rods.

All of the above mentioned are great options. I agree that 12 foot is the best option for a multi purpose rod. For spider rigging I prefer 14s, but either work. I would strongly suggest southern crappie rods too. Ed Duke is a super nice guy and he'll help you anyway possible in your decision. His rods are top notch too!!

I second these rods they are really good rods for the price!!! I run two 8 footers and two 10 footers but if I bought again I would get two 10 footers and two 12 footers. I run two different lengths to keep the lines from tangling when you turn.

Little bit cheaper at Monk's Crappie in North Carolina.

I got 4 14 ft rods for 90% umbrella 10% trolling

If I do well trolling the numbers will change [emoji106]🏻

Can't beat the southern crappie rods for the money and service. I have about 25 of them for long lining and tight lining. I may sell 4 of my 12 footers to up grade to 14 footers.

Has anyone pulled crank baits with the Southern Crappie poles? I'm also interested in a multi-purpose set of poles.

I own the Pan Fish Specials and the Pinnacle Limits. Nothing wrong with the rods. However, I started fishing with Southern Crappie Rods and now catch more fish than ever. The rods have a tip that shows you more bites than the other rods. They have a backbone to reel in big fish but soft tip to show you the bite. The rods handle crank baits and heavy weighted rigs just fine. Ed has a new rod developed for super heavy baits like more than 1oz and big crank baits coming soon. My wife fishes with me and could not believe the difference in the fish she catches now verses using the other rods. She caught her first 2 lber this year because she saw the bite. For me the Southern Crappie Rod made a huge difference especially when the bite is very lite or when the fisherman has little experience.
