Here is a few fish and the boat ride from Youngbloods landing to Phills Landing on Cross Bayou and you can see how rough the water was out there yesterday

JR, they do things COMPLETELY DIFFERENT up there! The first time me and Deacon went up there we freaked out with all of the boats staying on plane as they went by. We would get shot for that south of I 10 but you get use to it and it actually works alot better than people BARELY slowing down and rocking your boat more than if they would have just stayed on plane. I'm use to fishing the marsh, and in the canals I fish, people can't really slow down or they will not be able to get back on plane so all in all it works out fine for me.Quote:

Yes....definitely have.....it was really weird....when I was a young teenager (yes Danny, I can remember back that far) my family was fishing on a pier about 50 feet out from the bank....this was back in time when only the rich had motors and the super rich had boats also......about the biggest motor folks had was a 10 HP.....anyway, whenever a boat would come close to the pier, the fish would start biting like crazy then quit after things settled down....Quote:

That's the truth there. Spooks me big time, I can see maybe on the main lake, but not in the tight bayous. Has made me nervous every time I go. Ann refuses to go there anymore. I've seen folks running in the early morning with a heavy fog without running lights. I made a post on here about four or five years ago about that traffic as well as folks boating the 6" fish regular. A week later, some fella got tee-boned in one of the bayous and killed him, which didn't surprise me one bit. I am no hurry, if it takes me an additional 10 - 15 minutes to get to a spot I want to fish, then so be it.Quote:

Have to disagree. Boat etiquette is different in a bayou. When your boat is out of the water on plane your wake is much less than when you slow down. Near Youngbloods to Shad for instance, you could pass 50 boats, at an idol it would take forever.Quote:

Please do slow down if their are wall to wall boats and little room. Had a friend get run into on a corner up on long branch last year.

This is an age old battle that nobody will win. It's a fact that a boat on step at high speed will make less waves than a boat that slows down and then leaves the throttle at 2000 or more RPMs. But with that said also a boat that is brought to dead idle, will hardly make a ripple in the water. Another pet peeve, when coming to a intersection in a canal to not slow down going around a blind corner. Last week Linda and I were heading down a main canal with a bunch of short side canals. When I got to one such side canal which I know is very popular with fishermen, I got off step just in time to see a bass boat on step come flying around the corner and pointed directly at me around 200 feet away. Now 200 feet may sound like a lot, but it doesn't take but seconds to cover that distance. Luckily i had slowed because of what followed next. He sees me and tries to slow down in time then while coming off step he turns left instead of passing on the right. I by instinct had turned to pass him on the right. I threw my boat in reverse and had him stop nose to nose about 30 foot from my boat. He looks at me like I had done something wrong and finally turned right to pass by me and got on step without ever looking directly at me. A true nightmare from a true butt hole.
