First time trying flourocarbon

And I'm very disappointed in its strength.

Bought some 6# seaguar red label (i probably spelled that wrong)

Loomis 5'4" mag light rod 25 series pfleuger reel.

Double jigs and the line snapped so easily
Never had this issue with 6# mono or the super thin braid. First fish i hit with the line got the crappie to top water and was reeling it in. Snap. Not a monster but id guestimate a 10 to 11"er. Thought fluke retried and ended up losing 3 or 4 more fish and jigs.

I almost want to give up on flouro already but my inlaw says maybe i got a bad spool.

Any opinions?

I am a supporter of Tatsu fluorocarbon. I have had issues with a few brands and currently use Tatsu or P-Line halo. As long as you tie the right knot and wet it before tightening, no issues. I use a Pitzen knot or a Uni Knot. I use a palomar knot for attaching snaps because the small diameter wire causes knot breakage. I use a lot of 4# thru 8# and during fall and winter use braid with a fluorocarbon leader.

Careful knot tying is the key with fluorocarbon. I use Red Label a lot and as long as I tie a good knot, it's good stuff.

I did some reading and it looks like i will try the uni knot.

Yes the P line is very good and its the knot you tie and make sure you wet it is the key. I had the same problems. What I like doing is using braid and just tying a fluorocarbon leader of about 4 ft and this works best for me on spinning tackle. There are knots you can tie that will not hang up in the guides.

Dont give up too quick. I struggled with it too at first. Its all about the knot. Stuff works great. Really like it in clear water like table rock, wilson, beaver, tanneycomo ect.... totally agree on braid with a flour leader. Works great. Trolls great. Doesn't handle abrasion well at all. Zebra musle covered vertical structure can be risky. Most serious big fish folk retie after every fish. Dont know the name but best flour knot I know leaves ya 3 tag lines when your done. Always a couple spools in my boat these days.
IMO. If your breaking a lot of fish off, lines working. Just got to get the weight and knot right.

I started using Seagur Abraz X and its as tough as nails. I have only lost less than 5 wipers this year getting broke off or a cut line from zebra muscles. Expensive but good stuff but I only use it as a leader.

I hear about these problems all the time, what is wrong with using a tried and proven line like Stren.

I use blue Stren 12 lb test on my cat and eye poles and hi vis green mr crappie 6 and 8 lb on ultralites.

I mainly use fluro because it sinks and it is less visible. Thus my lure gets to the depth I want quicker. But, knots can be an issue and it is pricey...
In the end, I think, its what line you have confidence in that matters most. Terry

Hang in there. Its all about the knot. Still learning myself...

Doh. I forgot this threas got moved. I wanted a line that would sink faster and flouro 6# is thr equivalent diameter of 4# mono.

Anywho. I went out last week and tried flouro again but as luck would have it. I didnt get into many fish to see if changing to a uni knot helped or not.

I almost feel like some of the 4# mono i used is stronger than the 6# flouro red label i got. Just trying different things to see what i like. Reading up on it mono stretches so it can take a hookset better than braid and flouro and some say you need to adjust how hard you set the hook to not break off. Just in my case the hook was set... fish got to top water and snap.

I love the sink factor. I think the uni will work for you.
I only go thru the eye once and 4 turns thru. I am not sure what the best uni is for our application (6lb test).
