I'm in the market for a new knife. I've always heard American Angler was best, but I hear the new ones aren't the same quality. What are y'all using??

Go to Walmart and buy their white electric knife in the cooking section. It works as well as any and only cost around $11. I've used about every type and brand and this is best for money and last just as long
I use the American Angler, but it is a older model. I understand Rapala makes a good one. For $11 the Walmart one might do.
AMERICAN angler for electric knife. Also have two Bubba Blades. Takes some practice but once you get used to them you can be just as quick as an electric knife. 9 inch flex. 9 inch stiffie check the website out. Rips right through the ribs.
Walmart $11 cheapie. Best I've used yet!
I've used the Hamilton Beach from Wal Mart. Worked fine. I'm using a Mister Twister right now. Works fine. I've used the Rapala, worked fine, but I personally didn't like it. It was borrowed and had a funky blade design that I wasn't used to... Basically, I think most brand knives are fine and will do the job. I suggest to not get too $$ invested in whatever you choose, because there's very effective models available for $20 or less. I don't look at electric knives as a one time purchase, I consider them disposable and a cost of doing business Ha ! Therefore, I don't get too $$ invested in any of them. I'm on year 4 with my Mister Twister, other than needing a good sharpening it doesn't show any signs of crapping out on me anytime soon. If it does, I won't be disappointed. I got 4 years out of a $20 purchase. In my eyes, the life of a knife is maintaining good sharp blades. Sharp blades reduce the stress on the motor which preserves the life of the knife.
Mister twister best I have found I have a cordless Rapala which is fine if no power but the blades run to slow compared to the Mister Twister when it gets dull they sell replacement blades not sure how to sharpen serrated blades.
DKB I've seen those youtube video's the bubba blades look pretty sweet, but I don't trust my self with one of those suckers. I'd have one to many victory drinks and fillet my finger! I might give the walmart knife a shot and if that doesn't suit me I will always have an $11 backup to keep in the boat....
My to 30 year old Rapalas work just fine and my diamond sharpener and honing steel keeps them working fine. I can actually shave with them!
American Angler!

I used green mister twisters for long time, then went to the blue twister piranha, tried many different blades. Updgraded to Rapala Heavy Duty. Honestly for crappie any brand does great as long as the blades are new. I like the Rapala cause it has a better, supposedly has 2x power and 3 times torque. Not sure I can tell that but I do know it does not get hot after use. However now I see green twister have upgraded to more power and torque and are 1/3 price. If I had to all over I would go green twister and buy more blades.
I gave less than 30 for my American Angler with 2 sets of blades. It's lasted 4 years without any sign of slowing down.
I have a Rapala cordless that so far has work great, but then again I rarely have many fish to clean. LOL
Hamilton Beach from Walley World. It boils down the how many amps the motor is. Rapala & Berkley I believe are 25 amps. HB is 100 amps. Same as American Angler. If you ever run the 25 amp knives next to a 100 amp, you will have an Aha moment and really see the difference in blade speed. Also, the Berkley replacement blades fit the HB.
Happy Cleaning.
Sorry meant watts
haha that's a good one clfarms1...real good information between you and TNfisher. I have several electrics that I switch between. I definitely notice differences and now I know why!theysaid
Mister Twister is decent for the money....I think my Browning is the best electric knife I've ever used , although it is a bit more expensive. I've cleaned thousands of fish with it and have only had trouble with the trigger...which I fixed myself. The Walmart one is ok if you only catch a few fish a month...any more than that and it will fail. If someone tells you that a regular fillet knife is faster than a decent electric knife, they're just trying to pat them self on the back...it's just not true.
I've got the rapala heavy duty and I love it. It's also my first electric knife, so that might have something to do with it ;)
I have the Rapala heavy duty for the last 2 years and it has been the last one I have had in my hands to date. It doesn't get hot and Wal-Mart carries the replacement blades. They feel good in your hand but a little heavier than the American Angler. I got 5 American Anglers in the junk box and I don't no how many Wal-Mart HB in there with them. I haven't used the Mister Twister so I can't comment on that on. The tell of the tape is when you go cleaning a bunch of white bass and you will feel the difference in the heat build up on Rapala heavy duty. It will get warm but it does not get to hot to do any damage to motor..

Ive got the Rapala HD and it works for me, but I usually don't have many to clean.
if you have less than four different electric knives of different brands and four regular fillet knives.....you ain't got enough. I have a set of those real skinny blades for the American anglers I have...I kinda like them.Nut I use em all at different times. I have always had just one woman in my life.So I compensated by having to many boats, guns, and knives. The only electric knife I hate is one that gets hot when you clean 200 fish HAHA LOL BooYAh
I got an American Angler that my boys got me for father day over 20 years ago and it was the best I have ever used until one day this last spring when I was cleaning some fish and was bragging about it to others at the fish cleaning station and when I went to show them it , it slipped out of my hands from the fish slim and straight onto the concrete. Ugh, karma got me.
Black & Decker Slice Right Electric Knife at Walmart. A guide at Mark Twain was using one of these, had been on the same set of blades for 2 years. I've found them good and reliable. Around $12-13 depending on your location.
Well, I never threw that fillet knife away so I got it out yesterday to see if I could repair it and low and behold it works just fine again without doing anything to it but to wrap some electrical tape around the housing where it broke and then I cleaned yeaterdays catch with it. Karma is also forgiving.
Just a heads up ... in one of the previews of ads on Black Friday, Gander Mt. will have the Rapala HD fillet knife on sale for $39.99. A good price if you're in market for one. Not sure if that will be the online price, in case you don't live near a store. Check their website.
