Simply post a Crappie Picture in this thread, or post a Crappie "Catching" Tip in this thread and you are automatically entered in the raffle.You are allowed a post a day.

When the raffle is over, we will pick a random thread page number and then we will select the best pic or tip on that page. So this contest is a little different, a little random, but not completely random. So post a good pic, or post a good tip, to win.

If you make more than one post in this thread on the same day, only your first post made that day will count. If a disqualified post number happens to be chosen, another random number will be selected.

One tip on catching bigger Crappie is if your only catching throwbacks is to move locations . Instead of sitting on a brushpile or other cover full of dinks after several small ones and no good fish . The biggest fish usually are the first to bite here for us .

Use 2 or 4 lb line and you will catch more fish but use the net.

Dinks from brush piles make me fish just near the brush piles for the larger crappies. Sometimes the larger ones just hang on the outside a little.

"Setting the hook"....Crappie have very delicate mouth membranes that tear easily from the hook of a jig when you are catching them. You have to be very careful to not "rip the lip" when the crappie initially bites. If you set the hook too hard you could easily tear the hook right out of the crappies mouth. The best way to set the hook is to feel the bite and once you do simply flick your forearm up in a smooth quick speed to set the hook. This will initially set the hook in the crappie mouth and once it is set then you can simply apply steady pressure reeling the crappie in keeping the line tight so the fish will not run and rip the hook from its mouth. Be extra careful when pulling the crappie out of the water using just your line as the crappie can shake itself loose in the air if you do not get the fish in the boat or bank quickly.
Now reel in that crappie and have a great meal!!

This day was a nasty April cold front day, wnw winds of 20-25 mph. Caught this 2lb10oz pig, and 17 of her brothers and sisters that day!

When long lining, the thinner the line diameter the deeper the troll.
