How much gear do you have and carry?

I fish bank and boat...I have lengths marked in permanent silver on my poles, so I don't have to carry a tape/etc...on my poles I have 9.5" (legal crappie is 9") , 12.5" (legal Bass is 12"), 15.5" (legal Walleye is 15), and 18" (my biggest Crappie), 23" (my biggest Bass), 30" (my largest Walleye).
Everything else, stringers, multi-tool, etc, are in my cases....they both are in my car, with my 2 poles, and rain gear.
The clear case is for Crappie...that is all I ever use, nothing else.
The double sided blue case is for Walleye and Bass.
I only have one box in the basement with extra baits, hooks, and nibblets....and 3 spare pools and reels.
Once upon a time I had suitcase tackle boxes full, a whole room in my basement was full of fishing stuff, I had 20 some rods and reels ....now I have it narrowed down to what I really need....it's much easier to fish now!:):):)

I have way more than what I need & continue to buy more.:biggrin Every hatch on the boat is full of something.

When your crappie fishing, how much if any time do you spend vertical jigging ?

It depends on what I'm doing. I fish for a variety of species with a variety of tackle.

There is something to be said, though, for simplifying your tackle.

Same thing here, I come packing for a variety of species....

ZERO....I'll bottom bounce, stop and go, or let it die & twitch it through the water column, but I'm always casting and retrieving...If needed, I can rig weedless for heavy cover...and with the braid, it goes right through! Or I just pull free and straighten the sickle hooks.

Hey, to me a BIG Crappie is just a Small Bass that tastes a whole lot better! I've found the secret though...they'll eat the exact same things, the same exact way!:):):)lol

Just a coffee can with jigs and hooks. A min nard bucket and a few poles

Come-on...I donated all my extra stuff to a Local Program that teaches kid to fish....if it's that bad, you can impress her by helping local kids!:):):) Brownie points for you!:):):)lol

If I took "everything" I own, Crappie fishing related, on every trip ... my 16' ProCraft would be full and I'd have to have another boat in tow to carry the rest :biggrin (and that's just the stuff I've collected over the last 45 years or so ... I've also inherited stuff from my Grandfather, Mom, & Step-dad)

But, of course, I don't carry everything ... 3-7 rods/reels (depending on "where" I'm going), my tackle case, and whatever "accessories" I'll need for the trip, and I'm good to go.

One word........organized.

In the boat, one compartment and a small tray get it done for me. At home is another story. I have purged some in recent past of things I hadn't touched in years.

Our Local Springfield Parks and Recreation has a Program "Teach A Kid To Fish!"....You would not believe how many people that live in the City of Springfield (pop. 60,000) do not know we have a 2500 acre lake on the outskirts, a 100 acre lake just out of town, a creek that cuts the town in half, and a large river on the outskirts, plus downtown fishing ponds...that's not counting all the other gravel pits and ponds close by....then all the other lakes, rivers, etc, that are close.
The sad part is, that all you have to do is show a kid how to fish, and that kid will have a life skill and enjoyment that may keep him out of trouble for the rest of his/her life!
My son is 14, and I normally take him and 10 of his friends, fishing during the summer....only 2 of them have ever fished before...all of them now catch fish with swimbaits!:):):)

Probably a 1/4 ton of stuff. Most I bought and a bunch from my brothers late father in law. Not to mention the ice fishing gear.

i carry at least 2 rods everywhere I go ...they never leave the truck unless there is water nearby
somewhere in the thousands on jig bodies and around 200 heads ....not counting my handties ...
2 rolls of line and a want to rip a lip
day in day out ......when I hit the water with a boat
I carry 4 rods and around several thousand artificial baits
and I have crappie nibbles in every vehicle as well ....LOL

I have enough tackle to start a tackle shop. I have about 60 rod and reel set ups and enough plastic to catch 10,000 crappie. Strangely I carry very little when I go fishing. If I bank fish I carry 1 or 2 rods, minnow bucket and a small backpack with my gear in it. All my plastics, jigheads, jigs etc. are stored in Plano organizers marked with a sharpie. Bluegill, crappie/white bass, catfish and bass stuff are stored in individual organizers. Tell me the species and method and I can be geared up in less than two minutes. Even the rods and reels are organized by action, length and type of line.

My brother in law gave me one for Christmas a few years back. Had no clue how to tell him it was junk, but they went camping for a weekend with us and asked if I had a fishing pole he could use. Why YES I do, he did not fish very long before throwing the entire thing in the river and went sat down. They been giving me Bass Pro gift cards ever since. So they are a handy thing to have every once in a while.

On the kayak, only what fits in the built-in tackle tray. On the boat, 1 full tackle bin that contains 4 plano trays.

I have hundreds (maybe thousands?) of pounds of tackle and hundreds of rods and reels. I carry 3 or 4 rods and enough tackle to maybe fill up a 2 gallon bucket. It's a shame, but it's truth. As for the vertical jigging question, I'd say 98% percent of my time is straight up and down.

It used to be that I took way too much stuff whenever I went fishing and more power to the ones that still take everything but the kitchen sink. My experience however was: I started to become a better fisherman when I decided what few tactical approaches I would use and make myself stick to them throughout the day... but I could only do this if I left everything else at home.

That's how I fish also. The only time I vertical jig is when the brush pile is too thick to cast.

I don't have much stuff, if I was 25 people. I am an idiot when it comes to buying fishing stuff. I feel it is almost as much fun for me as fishing. I don't even know how much stuff I have. I do give away a lot. I also have grandson's coming into the right age to start "borrowing" some of it. I certainly help the fishing economy.

My boat is a tackle shop, 8 trolling poles, 3 casting rods, 4 spinning rigs, thousands of jig bodies and heads, plus anything you can think of. I forgot 2 large tackle sacks with 10 trays. It is not doing you any good at home. I also keep 10 catfish noodles in the boat. I still have plenty of room. I have a 17.5' Aluma Craft Competitor.

I have a tackle shop volume of tackle but only carry 3 jig poles and a water proof box in my boat. The box contains a few small clear boxes with tubes , leadheads , hand tied jigs , gps , extra batteries, knife and pliers . I always say if your changing baits your not catching fish .:fish Most guys I fish with bring more tackle than I do even going with me in my boat .:Rofl Funny thing is more often than not even if they start off with something different, they change to what I'm catching fish on .:biggrin
