Hi,
My buddy is able to get a lot of 5 gallon buckets that have plaster or whatever it is called for dry walling....Does anyone have a good method or any tips on how to get the plaster that is still in bucket out of it?...Or does it matter if I leave it in the bucket?......I plan on making a lot of buckets here when the weather starts to warm up...Would appreciate any tips etc..

Hey there JCD, You might be able to just leave the lids off outside for a few days and let the plaster just dry up in the buckets. Then you should be able to bump the bucket on the ground and all the dry plaster should fall out.

fill them full of water let set a few days should rinse out with water hose real easy
You shouldn't have to do anything but place the boo in and add the cement.
What little plaster is left in the pail will not have any effect on the cement. It may form "pockets" in the outside of the cement, but will not have any effect in the curing process.
You are looking for the weight of the cement and the holding of the boo in the cement. You might even get lucky enough to get the bucket loose from the cement and reuse the bucket again.
You do not need the bucket only as a mold to hold the cement until it cures.
If you don't have a good bucket source, just dig a hole in the yard and fill it up with cement and structure like you'd set a fence post. Let it dry, rock back and forth to loosen it from the ground and haul it to the lake.
I was reading the new Crappie Work mag and it mentioned just putting a bunch of weighted buckets on the bottom with nothing in them to make an artificial stump bed. Especially in shallower water. Anybody ever try that?

A couple of years ago there was pictures of a work party sinking several hundred in ky. lake--1/2 full gravel--
they said the fish use them as stumps:) :)
It was posted by Cane Pole and Fatboy helped him put them out. I can't find the pics now. I looked into ,making some of these (I have a good source of plant buckets) but never really got around to it. He said they worked good.

for you fellows in the metal trades, welding wire spools work just fine for artificial stumps. they are plastic and will last forever. anchor them by placing a piece of pvc pipe through the hole in the center and driving it into the lake bottom. make'em as tall as you need.:) :)
How about greasing bucket with bearing grease then the concrete wont stick to it.

We put enough crap in the water already by accident, theres no need in putting more if we can help it. If ya gotta put a release agent on your buckets, maybe try the cooking spray. But I'd vote against grease, diesel fuel, or other oil based products.
I like to use the dish pans. They pop right off without anything.
