Has anyone figured how to put a external transducer on them yet?
I sure do wish there was a way. I havent figured anything out yet. The da'ducer would be a good fix.........but I went with the ulterra so I wouldnt have to raise and lower anything manually. May as well be raising and lowering a terrova if I was going to have to raise and lower the da'ducer. Much cheaper that way.
I could be wrong but, I think Kosmo and DonG did a deal with air line hose that curls like a pig tail and mounted it where the shaft could slide up and down with cable mounted outside the bracket while keeping it from tangling and getting in prop. Also check YouTube for video on mounting transducer on PDv2 for ideas. Plus check the mounting transducer on Terrova in this section.
I used the set up above on my terrova ... I think it will work on the ultrerra also
Now this is a very good idea!!!!!!! I will definitely test it out! What do you have the zip tie attached to at the lower end of the pivoting part? And does it matter which way the cable is wrapped?
Are you talking about the zip tie on the silver locking shaft on the motor housing if ? If so it just zip tied to the shaft .. The one at the top of the motor housing attached with a stick on zip tie holder I got at Home Depot elect. Dept. .. Not sure the direction matters I did mine counter clock wise as the picture shows .. By the way this is not my idea it was on another site the guy said he had been using this set up for 3 years with no problems
Not that this helps much now, but why not purchase the ulterra with the built in US2. Then you never have to worry about it
That would be ok if all you want is 2d sonar .... If you want down imaging or side scan on the trolling motor you got to go another route .. And that's especially true if you have a lowrance as the cable is too big to fit in the groove in the TM shaft
I do have the built in US2. I use it alot, but I have an expensive graph on the front of the boat and not using it to the fullest capabilities. If I woulda known that I couldnt use HD down image I would have spent half the money and use that graph just like I am using it now. I did not realize how much I like the HD down image. And now I think this trick will work so I am really excited!!!
Yes sir I was talking about the zip tie on the locking shaft. Thanks alot for this idea! Its a genius one!
iam thinking that would work
This his is how I did this set up on my boat .. Shield and saver transducer mount bracket for the 83/200 2d puck and a lss1 structure scan.. I ran the two transducer cables inside some wiring conduit to keep them corralled together... When you raise the TM the cable coils right up at the base of the motor with out getting pinched or hung up ..I think it's going to work pretty slick

I love it!!!!
I spent Lord knows how much time searching the web for something to protect the external cable. You guys have great ingenuity. Here's a prefab version that I found.

Cajun fryer (a member here at CDC) actually supplies that very system to Precision Sonar ...
The Cable SaverR' can be purchased directly from cajun fryer ...

Hey I'm trying to do this to my terrova and I have a few questions. Where did you get that hose and what size is it? Also how did you get it on the transducer cable? Thank you!
Go to a truck parts place. Get a red or blue air line. It will be curled like that. Being real careful take a box cutter and split the hose following the curves.

Follow this website and scroll to the cable Guard at the bottom. Works fantastic! Cheapest and best way to use a good transducer (Chirp, mega, down/side view etc.) and remove the silly 4 pin US2 internal transducer. You can take the US2 off completely and route the return cable back through the existing spiral cable to clean it up. I am running the bow mounted Helix Mega 10 with the perfect transducer on my Ulterra and have for months with no problems. Precision Sonar | Products
