3 lakes on day- no bigguns
I got the chance to get away again for some bluegilling . The morning was pretty cold so I took my time getting away. The outside temp on the road was 48. The first lake is about a mile long and a 10 fish limit. It has been overfished to the point that it is a bit tough to find good fish there. The water was in the high 50s. I started with the same pair of 1/80 red butt jigs tipped with wax worms I used the last time. The fish were scattered and most were 16' or deeper . It took nearly an hour to get 10 nice eaters with nothing large .
The second lake was more enjoyable with the outside temps warming some. Most of my fish were coming off the white red butt. Since it was doing well, I put the PB rod in the holder and let Wally Marshall 5 1/2' bring home the fillets.
When entering the third lake I seen a leopard frog dive and burrow down into the bottom weeds. This lake still holds quite a lot of underwater wood that is not visible at the surface. I lost a few jigs to wood. Most of the time I can just spin and go back to easily pull the little jig off but some stayed in the deep . I got low on the white red butts and ended up using an old one that I had used a bit of red feather tip rather than the normal red yarn. Unless it was my imagination ,that improved the bite some .
By the time I had worked my way back to the takeout point at the last lake, the 42 in the basket was a fraction of the ones I caught and tossed back . My legs were tired from countering the light breeze.
That old overused adage should be changed to - "wind out of the East the fish sometimes feast" lol .
Times a wasting- get out there if you can.Attachment 217949Attachment 217948Attachment 217947Attachment 217946Attachment 217945Attachment 217944Attachment 217943
