2015 Slabfest at Talquin

Another great time was had by all this weekend at the Talquin Slabfest. We had plenty of good food and fellowship. The fishing wasn't what we have been accustomed to in the past and it was hard to get the fish to bite, but there were some nice fish caught. The 2 largest that I know of were caught by Spiderman and Outlaw 125. On Wednesday and Thursday, Spiderman had 2 that went 1.75 lbs and Outlaw 125 had one that was 1.9 lbs. Fishwalton has a ton of pictures and we'll get them out of him somehow and get them posted soon.
We had some folks there for the first time and it was great to make new friends. I know if I start naming names, I'll leave someone out but I look forward to seeing you all again on the water.
I had the uh...umm...ahhh....pleasure(?):scratchhead Friday to fish with "D" from Louisiana. Danny is a great guy and regardless what Hooker says "D", you are welcome in my boat anytime you are back down this way!!:ThumbsUp
We had 6 Big Fish winners today. They were:
1. Litewirehooker and Heavylead............1.69 lbs
2. Debbie(The Outlaws wife)..................1.38 lbs
3. Quiver............................................ .1.36 lbs
4. Bruce and Kathy...............................1.32 lbs
5. Huntinslabs and Crappieday...............1.25 lbs
6. Spiderman.......................................1. 05 lbs
Thanks to all that donated door prizes, the ladies at LTL for doing a super job on the food, Hooker and Heavylead for taking charge on the cooking and Slab for all of the goodies that he brought to give away.

Had a great time. Thanks to LTL for hosting and everyone especially the preparers, cooks and cleanups. Had some very generous donations for sure..We had a blast and really enjoyed putting some faces to names. Thanks for going with Andy, you got a seat in my boat anytime.

Yep, what super group of laid back, easygoing fishermen and women. Enjoyed listening to lightwires and tnt's and others stories. Thanks for sharing your boat with me Mike. Good eats and got to talk with the head goober slab from shellcracker.com

Unbelieveable good time CG1. So many people and everyone I saw having a good time. Curtis and Tim was running like Banty roosters trying to talk to everyone and helping everyone. Hopefully I can make many more.

Well we made it home at 4 central time. Pouring rain last 2.5 hrs. Had to drive slow. Tim , you an awesome dude. Still can't figure out what to think about Hooker. lol. Mae and I had a great time. Enjoyed meeting all of you and will do my best to come back. Somebody has to take the title from Hooker. HaHa. Really great job guys and glad the fish did cooperate somewhat. The Louisiana bunch probably won't believe it when I say I caught keeper fish in Miss. and Fla. Thanks again.Great job on the pix. Thanks for what you do head Guber. Great Fest, Thanks to Tim, Curtis, & everybody who played a part in putting this event together.....the lodge in particular took me back to a time when things were much simpler, no locked doors, your equipment safe outside at nite, ect....as was the people I swapped conversation with this weekend, some the 1st time, while others rekindled....the bonus is always the fishing which appears we were a tad early for the better bite this year, but the fellowship more than filled that void....met a new friend & 1 heck of a tight-liner in "The Spiderman", Doug your hospitality was second to none & I look forward to fish'n Clark's Hill & Oconee with ya some day.....Hat's off to Talquin !! Thanks for the kind words Jeff. The feeling is mutual. I can't wait for December to come so I can get down to Cresent. Hopefully we can hook up either at Cresent, Harney, or a lake in between. I want to thank everyone at the slab fest for making me feel at home. This was the first one I have attended at Talquin and I intend to be at other ones, if the Lord is willing. Had a great time and met some really great folks. Special thank to Curtis, Tim, and Talquin Lodge for putting things together and the use of the facilities. The fishing was off, but when you surround yourself with a great group of people, the fishing is a bonus.

Thanks to all involved in putting everything together, fished HARD but a large thank you to 'thespiderman' the trip ended with fish to fry and all cleaned and ready to fry. Went back out fishing and the 'skunk' was removed. Good time, good food and great people what more could be asked for.--shu

Got up this morning, made my coffee, and read all the posts. All I can say is ditto many times over for the expressions of satisfaction and appreciation to all
those who made this happen. A wonderful time with a great group of guys and gals who have a common interest of fishing for crappie. Thanks to all for the memories.

Big thanks to everyone that had a hand in putting this together. Me and the boys had a great time. As usual the food was great. It was nice to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Fishing was a little slow but I got to spend three days fishing with one of my kids and a friend of his. I was a little worried because I couldn't seem to get the boys on the fish and stay on em. We caught a few each day, lost a few and caught a few stripers but we worked as hard as ever to get them. By day three as we were pulling out at sun up my spirits were pretty low, but I looked back in the boat and seen two 12 yr olds starting the day with just as much optimism and excitement as day one. That re-taught me something...Its easy for us to get caught up in big fish and numbers but if you let the success of a fishing trip hinge on whether you load the boat or not, you're missing the point. Funny sometimes how you set out to try to teach a kid something and in the end it's you who does the learning. lol
Sunday morning as we were packing up to leave, they asked me if there was gonna be another "Crappie" camp next year. I told them I reckon so and both of em at the same time said can we come back? So for me and my family it was a success and another big thanks to everyone involved, everyone that gave the boys stuff and everyone that made us welcome. You can go ahead and sign us up for next year. Life is good

Nixon I am glad ya posted. Them 2 younguns are some well mannered boys. You and the other boys parents are doing a fine job raising them. Make sure and tell your wife and other family they great to be around. And dont forget if for some reason you get drug down here again hollar.

Nixon.....on the way back home yesterday my fishing buddy mentioned you and the boys and the great conversation we had with you on the front porch of our cabin. You are right....if us older folks will take the time and pay attention we can learn from the young. It was a pleasure meeting all three of you.

Thanks....I had about 50 more but deleted them by mistake, and they were some of the better photos. That means I will have to go back next year for a repeat and do a better job.

Nixon, I think the camera or phone setting needs to be changed to portrait. Like I said, got home in hard rain. Cleaned all the bugs off the truck and 5th wheel. News said about 10.79 inches this weekend with majority on saturday. Also guys, I unstuck the Talquin threads on roll call, events, and food.

It was a great event. I'm still catchin' up on things. Eventually I'll post pics. But I have to say, thespiderman really made Shu's day with his generosity. Essentially he took the pressure off Shu to "have to" catch fish, thereby allowing Shu to actually catch fish and enjoy himself. Three spidey cheers to thespider.

Thanks Slab for the recognition. When I saw the smile on Shu's face, that was the high point of the slab fest for me.

The smile was in my heart and again yesterday while frying the fish, you made my whole trip one to remember and to realize there's more to a trip than catching fish. Thanks for your generosity and may you catch a bunch.--shu

That bag of fish was a very generous gift spiderman. Oh and I did not realize until Mae told me, Shu gave me some jelly. Thanks Shu. Gonna make some biscuits this weekend to try it on. Danny
