WHERE AND WHAT IS THE BEST CRAPPIE LAKES
BH ... I'd have to say KY Lake (Big Sandy) would be the premier locale. But, other than that, it's a toss up ... depending on which section of Tenn you're talking about (East/Middle/West).
I've only fished a couple in E Tn ... Watts Bar, Cherokee, & Douglas ... with Watts Bar being the most recent & most often fished. Chickamauga is often reported about on here, and most results seem to be pretty decent.

Sure not west TN!
Seeing this post raised a question for me. My wife and I were the Park Attendants at Salt Lick Campground on Cordell Hull Lake for a couple of years. I did not get to fish it much so I was curious if any of you guys fish it and how it is?
SeaRay, I have fished it a few times and I think it is good. Jug fish it for cats and do real good on 5lb and under. Beautiful, quiet campground.
Is Douglass a good crappie lake Attachment 217190
what happened to Reelfoot? I don't live that far away from it but somehow just never made the trip.It use to have so many they commercial fished it and a lot of people from this area use to go down there and do real good.Don't hear a lot about it anymore.
Reelfoot use to be really good but she is in a slump now. We have a had a couple of year with bad spawns and the Asian carp have hurt the lake but it will bounce back. The picture below was Feb. of this year it was the best trip I have had all this year.

Thats' really sad about Reelfoot...a lake with quite a history in this area. I remember back in the 60's my Dad had a friend with a small airplane and sometimes they would just fly down for the evening to eat fish at one of the restaurants. And I remember a few duck hunting and fishing shows use to get filmed there. Always one of those places I was going to go next year.
Should have known they would have the Asian Carp sickness. What a scourge on our land.
SeaRay. SHHHHHHHH. Cordell Hull is a hidden secret. Once you mastered some locations it can be very good crappie fishing.
It also has some good sauger fishing as well.
Hands down the best fishing for Crappie is Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.
Never have I seen better anywhere. Except when the North Wind blows and
its cold....
Certainly a matter of opinion but I'd say the big four are Reelfoot, KY Lake, Douglas, and Chickamauga. Several others are good and some seem very cyclical.
A couple of the guys that came in to fish brought a sauger up to show me. I had caught Waylleye in Erie and Canada, but I had to look up Sauger to find it was a cousin to the Walleye. Guess there are Walleye in Cordell Hull too, but I never knew anyone to catch them. It is a secret apparently, because I seldom saw more than a boat or two, except for the holidays when the skiers and water fleas took over for a few days.
Ive been fishing lately on reelfoot and I'm going to go ahead and tell y'all that reelfoot is out of the slump and headed in a very good direction.
1 Kentucky 2 Old Hickory 3 Douglas 4 Chickamauga 5 Watts Bar in my opinion.
Watts bar. They are running like crazy by the dam.
'Splain yourself, son :Rofl
Which "dam" and above or below it :scratchhead .... in other words, are you talking about below the dams at Tellico, Melton Hill, or Ft Loudoun (near Lenoir, Tn) or above the Watts Bar dam (SW of Spring City, Tn on hwy 68) ??
Remember ... if you're fishing "below" the Watts Bar dam, you're fishing Chickamauga ... and if you're fishing "above" the dams at Tellico/Ft Loudoun/Melton Hill, then you're not on Watts Bar Lake.
Reason I'm asking is I may be down that way in the near future, and it would be nice to know where any "running like crazy" activity is going on. And if you don't want to be specific & let the whole world know ... PM me with any info you care to share. I don't want your "third brushpile down the bank from .... " type of info ... just what area, what depth, and what type of cover you're fishing (docks, brushpiles, laydowns, open water). "How" you were fishing is up to you as to whether you want to divulge that info, or not. I'd appreciate any info you care to share.

Put in at Spring City. The rest is up to you Pappy.
