Harris 10/12
Had a good day with white perch, crappie, and cats including 2 that were pushing 10 lbs. Fish were a bit deeper than I expected. i started the day in 12-15 with no luck. I remembered noticing the bait in deeper water so I eased out and started catching white perch then eased out a little more and found more crappie. Around 11 the bite turned off completely for me and a near by boat. Even the white perch shut down. I finally got back into them around 1:00 in even deeper water and it was almost pure crappie.

Nice. I did a little striper fishing on Hickory Sunday and also noticed the bait was all very close to the bottom there as well. Must be that cold front that moved through. Pulled a little for crappie before my trolling motor died. Caught everything but crappie. Smallmouth, Largemouth, even perch, but no crappie. I bet they were on the bottom with the shad.

Bluegras, Marked a few stripers, but only got one to bite. New boat is trolling a little fast. going about 4 mph. I really like about 2.8 to 3.2. I am making a few small drift buckets to toss out. Stripers were out on the flats in about 25 foot of water.

Are they in coves, or main lake, points, or everywhere :) I'm planning to go Thursday, don't get to go much now-adays I don't mind hunting for fish but a head start never hurts!
-
They have been right inside the mouths of the big coves, but Sunday they had moved out of the coves holding on flats in front of main lake points. Anywhere there was a change in depth, the shad and stripers were there. Food luck.

Good luck and let me know how you do. I will be back Saturday.

Thanks cwright, I'm going to Harris no stripers there. Wish there were!
-
Crappie were in the main lake. Perch were in both the creek mouths and main lake. Go deeper than you expect.

Sounds like y'all had a good time

Can I ask how you guys fish on the bottom? I mean, are you using 1/# bell sinker, Carolina rig, or just split shot about an Aberdeen? I need help.
Also, fishing on the bottom, are you anchored?
!!!!!!!!!!!!Please ignore!!!!!!!!!!
I just realized I was hijacking this thread. Sorry ' bout that!

First time out since July, windy but found crappie in 16 feet of water over brush, fished jigs and minnows. Caught more on black headed jig and a twister tail half dark blue and black with lime speckled colored tail. Fished from noon to 4:30 brought 12 nice keepers home for the pan.

I was spider rigging. Some were rigged similiar to carolina style but with a fixed vs sliding weight about 1/2 oz. Some had the weights on the bottom and a dropper a few inches up from it. I would drop it to the bottom and give it a crank or two to stay just off of it and was creeping along with the trolling motor so I would have to let out more line/crank in more as the depth changed. If casting for them either count the lure down until it is just off the bottom before beginning the retreive or let it sink all the way and then retrieve.

To get to bottom fish I do similar to todobien. I usually tie about 1/2 oz egg sinker about 2 foot up from the bottom. Put a hook or jig on bottom then go a couple of feet above the weight and do a loop about 2-3 inches long and place another hook or jig. I usually then use my trolling motor to move around slowly with them just off the bottom.
