fish the brush piles
Brush piles indeed.
Just saw I had 99 posts - this one is just to see if I get a new 'rank' at 100. : )
Any body catching any crappie on Barren ??
I'm catching a few here and there - one or two per spot where cover meets the channel. 15-25 FOW. None are stacked up yet that I've found, but that should change when they start pulling at the dam towards winter pool in the next little while.
Thanks Tim

Cool. I'm in Glasgow, Just up the road from the Beaver Creek Ramp.
Good to know I was over by their Sunday fishing , crappie weren't doing much. Hope they start hitting better soon.
Sunday report. Couldn't buy a bite. No fish marked. Water was clear-ish for barren. Shad everywhere in the creeks. Water temp 66-69°.
Main goal was to run motor with fresh gas and blow the crud out of it. Ran from state ramp up above walnut creek and back and then down to the islands. I'm ready for duck season now. Indiana season opens Halloween.
It's been turning over the last several days, and I read somewhere they're starting the draw down to winter pool today...should be slow this week and hopefully the bite picks up by Fri/Sat...
Went out today and didn't buy any minnows, just single poled around timber and over brush. Lake is turning over and they have pulled the plug, 4 tenths on the main gate. 65 to 68 degrees, cooler in the dingy water to the south of 31E. All the fish I caught today were dinks. Marked a ton of fish and think I'd have done better with minnows with the water being cloudy. Gonna try again Wednesday with minnows.
When they start to pull is it worth going down below the dam and trying for them? I would think an influx of oxygenated water would cause a run of sorts down there.
I used to have a little panfish model bass tracker that I could put in down there. I was able to run down below the downstream end of the old oxbow down there. Was kind of wondering if there is that kind of flow now that they have opened the dam or if I would need to use a canoe or kayak to get down there?
I'd go with something with a motor on it. You go down stream to the island and they blow that siren to warn of another gate opening I'd say you'd be in trouble with anything you'd need to paddle. I've walked to the island, heard the siren, and drove home in my bare feet due to wet shoes. They're pulling the lake six tenths now and will till they get down to 528. Its at 550.7 now and dropping 6 inches a day. The water is coming thru dam at a little over 2000 cubic feet per second. Talk about down the creek without a paddle. BE SAFE
Or I could put my big boat in with the 60hp. Just thought that would be too much boat down there. I have only put a boat in once down there, other times I have fished from the bank or been dipping shad.
