Every one has their personal favorite. I like brush. It's easy to sink
I like stake beds or stake buckets. A little more effort in building and sinking, but attracts and hold fish good, and not too bad to hang up in. Just my personal preference.
Jerry, you might like these.

I just helped my son put three structures in his pond.We used three pallets for each one and made a triangle with them. Used large zip ties like the heating and air guys use to bind them. Zip tied four concrete blocks on the bottom pallet to sink it. It was a bit of a struggle to get them in,but we were just wanting to try something different.Haven't tried to fish them yet been a week. The stake bed pallets are good too.
I still have it in my mind that a little sapling tree about 10' tall with some good spindly limbs is a good one. You just have to weight it good so you don't pull it up if you snag it. I think they are better than christmas trees.Just have always worked for me .I am still using natural stuff, haven't graduated to plastic yet though I'm sure its good. I think the structure that has adequate spacing between the limbs holds fish better than if its too tight.
just talkin on that dang ol internet
Small tree branches don't last long as solid wood or bigger limbs . The good fish seem to perfer cover with min of 8 '' spaceing so they can move through it with ease . Christmas trees don't last long and are too thick anyway . I have not had near as much luck using plastic , wood holds more fish here . If you make concrete buckets with heavy hardwood or red cedar stakes it will last longer than you will be here on this earth to fish .:twocents
If you have the time, materials and permission, I'd suggest the bamboo or hardwood 'trees' in concrete buckets. Problem with pallets, etc. is hangups. I'd do it right the first time, so you won't need to do it again!
Yeah, Nimrod. Pallets don't work anyway! :Rofl
Pallet stake beds are the best to use for few hang ups and easy to get loose if you hang . Only PVC hang less but also hold less fish for us too .:twocents bamboo hangs worse and don't last as long .
Jerry I probably catch more big fish off pallet stake beds than anything else I fish . Would you like to guess how many we have caught from them in the last decade on Nimrod Lake ?:biggrin
Just curious how you do your pallets? I knock some of the slats off, split them length wise and screw them to the pallet so that they are sticking straight up. I then add a few more hard wood slats to fill it out a bit, but it is still pretty sparse as far as brush piles go. When done this way it is virtually snag free and the big fish love it!
Have you sold it? Or is it for sale?
I want to guess! in the last decade, hummmm, you said "we" which must mean other crappie gurus, im guessing you're talking about 2 other guys maybe 3 that thrive on ole nimrod's leadership. 27 fish per trip average. 45 trips per year. We'll call it 1,200 fish per year so my guestimate is 12,000 fish.
45 trips !!! ain't even close he fishes that many days in 2 months, Lol !!!!!
It was a rental house, and Jason with Tremendous landscaping has already rented it. U have to get on the waiting list with the lady out there that collects rent if u want one of them. They don't come up very often. The one that Brad Sechrest had that is just south of the ramp will probably be available after the first of the year.
