Any.....
Fished Harris Brake one time this year off the bank. Caught some small ones. Rumor has it there are some good ones in there.
Water temps finally fell below 80 this week. To me, fish seem to still be scattered. I've picked up a few here and there casting jigs and single pole jiggin' but haven't broke double digits in keepers yet. The shad are where they're supposed to be, so I assume the crappie will be shortly behind them. If you fish that lake regularly and know where to find them in the summer months and also where to find them in the fall months, then try the connecting points in between. I don't fish there in the summer so I don't know where they go then, but I know earlier this week they haven't quite made it to their fall hangouts. Good luck.
Drive on by and go to nimrod. Better to fish 2 hrs where there are a lot of fish than fish all day where there are only a few.
me too CMJ. Would just go brim fishing if going to keep a bunch of dinks.
I guess it just depends on what you are after. Some people just like to get out on the water and enjoy God's creation. Some like to put out the spider rigs and yank em in left and right, not too concerned with catching giant fish, (not that you can't catch big fish that way.) I can appreciate those things too, but since I mostly catch and release, I prefer to catch a handful of Hogs over numbers. Those of us who live in central Arkansas are blessed to have a variety of lakes to choose from. Some are easy, and some you really have to do your homework to figure out. Those are the ones that I like to target because the rewards are well worth the effort..:twocents
It is fun for folks that don't go alot to just catch fish no matter what it takes. Some lakes have high numbers with some good fish , but most of the lakes with some real hogs can be tough on those fishermen who don't go alot . We can fish all day to catch a handful and be alright with it . Some folks loose interest after a short while with few or no bites . I guess different strokes for different folks applies here to fishing . I'm with CMJ and perfer bigger fish , often leave a spot when catching lots of fish if they are not good ones . :fish
I ended up going to nimrod and caught six crappie. I have no depth finder and don't know the lake so I had to just guess. I'm going back to nimrod Friday night to camp and hopefully catch some more Saturday. Any helpful hints would be great given my lack of skill ;)
Good luck. You've already caught 6 more from there than I ever have. I've never been on Nimrod, but there's lots on here that are regulars.
Hey, just get around the red or green bouys. Fish minnows between 8 and 12 ft deep. Nice fish cleaning station at Carter cove. Lol. Good luck.
Any certain area to fish those bouys? I fished the mouth of where it turns into a creek last week. Just fishing any visible structure.
We fished the red bouys wher Anderson branch comes into the main lake 2 weeks ago. Both points around the bouys had fish. Kept 2 limits.
Lol I don't know any of the point names or cove names. But thank you very much that's a great beginning for us
Anderson Branch is the launch area/cove East of Carter cove. Head toward Carter cove and stay to the left at the guard shack, that will take you right to the ramp. You will know exactly where to go once you see it. He basically drew you a map! Good on ya jtresn!
Stop at the project office at Fourche Junction and get you a Nimrod map, and talk to the folks there too.
Wow thanks!!! You all are amazing. I owe you!!
All the help I can't get. I've been trying to learn for years and slowly getting better. I'll be there Saturday in a chartreuse jacket if anyone wants to stop and say hi or tell me where you might catch some more lol. Thanks again from terance.
Good luck! Be sure and take you some "Nimrod Specials".
Common man we know you have a phone or PC. Google maps. Maybe cool and windy Saturday. Find the red buoys out of the wind. Normally brushpiles close.
I used everyone's advice and ended up with 42 and 2 blue hill Saturday. Thank you very much it was a great weekend. I don't know how to post pictures though
Any size to those 42?
On nimrod and no monsters but some decent ones
I Just got back from nimrod. We caught most of our fish 10 to 6' deep spider rigging minnows and jigs. My only complaint is that out of about 60 that we caught they were very small crappie are big slabs in that lake. It was my first time to crappie fish it.
Yes there are slabs in NIMRODAttachment 218639
Conway has tons of small crappie right now. There has been excellent spawns the last two years. Should be really good next year!
No offense taken. Here is one from a biologists perspective. "What happened to the fish? This lake used to be great and people were filling coolers with slabs!" Everyone seems to compare their best fishing experience to every trip they take and if it doesn't measure up, then something must be wronge. It's funny how people do that. I hear it every year on at least one lake.
