Haven't been on in a while. My work is finally starting to slow down so I took the boat out on the river. Didn't catch many but had fun. Caught 11 most all the same size 11-12" whites in creeks in Meldahl pool. All on jigs.

Hey Robin
Good to see you posting again. I'm looking forward to the winter fishing season.
Hopefully we can get out a few times together again this year.
Nice fish BTW
Good fish. I've been wasting my time chasing bass on the river.
Went again today.... Had fun it was really nice out. Still not convinced I'm doing something right. We had prolly 10 crappie, 7 of those at 5-6" the rest dandies. Same way..... I'm thinking about drowning minnows next trip
Not really. You will catch several early in the morning right on the bank and then need to switch over deeper as the morning goes on. Never know what you will pull out of that water. Yesterday caught 1 nice crappie on a deep-diving crankbait. Usually smallmouth, largemouth or spots with an occasional catfish, drum or gar. All small though. Slow rolling crankbaits has been productive.
Robin, you are giving me the fever.
Nice fish!
I just got back from 2 days fishing the river backwaters in Markland Pool. Managed a number of smaller fish and only 1 over 10". My dad and I even threw lights out and fished til midnight in a favorite hole but did not do very good.
One thing is the river, at least in that section, is not in good shape right now. The algae was terrible. It looked like pea soup. Much worse than what I've seen at East Fork in the last couple of years. I don't know if this has any affect on the fish though. But fishing was tough, last night and this morning. Still trying to figure out where those bigger river crappie go from July-Sept. Another month, we should be catching nice ones from the same spots.
Pea soup you got that right! I only caught one stinking crappie today in one of the two creeks I fished. It was a monster white but geez. I wonder if this algae could be throwing the fish off?? It is very very thick!! My boat trailer from backing it in these past few days has went from silver to pea green.
Snapped a few pics of my trailer.... Man that stuff is nasty. Anyways, I snapped a pic of a bank in one of the new creeks I fished today. Has to be one of the prettiest creeks I've ever been in.. A lot of the creek looks like tis pic.can't say I caught a bunch of fish out of it, but it was a beautiful creek.
Seems like I've been there before...;)
Good catch
Crazed ...... I fished that catfish tournament out of rising sun a few weeks back...... Was that you I saw running down the main river??? Boat looked just like yours but I couldn't see the driver.
I put in at tanners, fished hogans, laughery, so if it was in that area then possibly was me..... That was the day of the bfl tournament. Actually I think I was there Saturday.... Yes Saturday was when I was there... During that crazy cold front. Bad day I can tell ya that for crappie fishing.

Is that Whiteoak Creek?
I've been back in there before not much structure other than shallow and some floating docks....not that I haven't caught them back there just haven't caught many...... White oak is by far my least favorite creek to fish for crappie... Channel cats in the spring though it's my favorite,!
One of my winter time bays is completely devoid of cover except for rip rap banks and floating docks. It close to the mouth of a creek and it loads up in late November through spring. The fish school up off the banks and you have search a little, but when you find them it's a limit. Side imaging helps immensely. I just remembered that bay from fishing a bass tournament out of Maysville a few years ago, and thought it would set up similarly
It's funny u say that because I have talked to guys that have just tossed out minnows and caught them in there!!!! The problem isn't finding fish in open water as Ive got side imaging but that freaking slew is always plumb the hell full of shad... I mean all the time. Side imaging is always lit up like you sprinkled salt on the screen so it's hard to figure what's crappie or not... I bet there in there, I just like having a piece of structure to throw at.... I'm sure I'm leaving a lot on the table by staying simple minded!?
