Debbie was cutting the front yard on the John Deere L-130. She went to back up and the engine died. I tried to crank it for over and hour, even with a jump start, can't hear a click anywhere around the engine. Where to start looking for problem?

starter solenoid
Call KDavid1
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
What G said. Be my best guess.
Could be one of the safety switches stopping it from doing anything.
You have a seat switch, brake switch and a PTO switch and all have to work or the starter will not work.
Alot of lawn mowers have a safty switch to shut the engine down when you back up with the mower deck engaged also. Like scrat said all must be working for engine to start.
Battery is dead, been using a jump start on it all season long without a problem. Sometimes after running it for a while I'll shut it off and the battery will crank it.
I jumped out the solenoid and it started this morning. Everytime I got off of it I would pull the park lever and it stayed running. Hauled limps to the road for a new bonfire pile a few times and a few loads of firewood to the rack. I started to park it in the barn but left it out in the yard instead. I shut it off and it wouldn't click again.
I'll go to Tractors and Things at Hernando tomorrow and get a solenoid.
Might as well get a new battery too
Just a reminder. Don't forget these mowers also have a fuse.
The fuse is the first thing off the battery going to the switch. I removed it today while the engine was running, it Died.
Checking online for parts, I can find a starter for the tractor for $223. Haven't found a solenoid yet. Still looking.
The solenoid looks just like one on a older model Ford truck except smaller.....it is not mounted on the starter. Actually one for a old Ford truck will work.
Yea G that's what I'm finding. Remove the old solenoid from the starter and mount a new close on the frame. $12.47 online or $46 at the John Deere dealer.
About 12 bucks at NAPA
I checked Napa. Every solenoid under $20 is out of stock at 3 stores close to me.
This one ordered is what John Deere says to use, shipped free for $12.47.
After I ordered it I got jumped to another site. The John Deere starter is $58.90 shipped. Wished I'd seen it first.
We were wrong with the solenoid being bad.
Now I have a $12.47 part coming that I don't need.
Well....you said when you jumped out the solenoid it started.....thats the way we always test them.
So what was it ?
Remove the ignition switch, clean and lube it before going any farther.
Well that's better than if you would have bought the starter. You had said that you jumped out the solenoid and it started. So I would have also thought it would have been the solenoid also.
Yep, the key would turn to the crank position and nothing happened. In the run position I jumped out the solenoid and it would run. I wouldn't have thought of that at first.
This ignition is at an angle on the dashboard. Working in dusty conditions allows a little trash to enter the key slot everytime it's used. My key was getting to the point of not but half of it was in the slot. That's the main reason I removed it for a cleaning. Since I had it out, might as well clean and lube the electrical points.
Safety switch.
