Should catch crappie Cane Pole. I guess only draw back is how many colors does heat shrink tubing come in? I would think Chartreuse would be hard to find, LOL! I have no clue of course since I never looked for that.
Still great idea and think a few colors could do the trick!

I have been in the RC car world for a very long time and you can get a good amount of diff colors in heat shrink tube !!

After reading this thread I did a search for bright color heat shrink tubing.........you can get most any color at a very reasonable price...hmmm:ThumbsUp
I found another little piece of heat shrink. The jig head is a Lindy jig I won at Grizzly Jig. The tail is something that looks a little like hair and you pull what you want off a strip. When I put the heat to it to shrink the tubing, the hair like stuff kinked a little. I got a box of this stuff at a home auction.

Those are good Tom. Outside the box as always. I've seen jigs in stores that didn't look that good. Try wrapping the hair with a paper towel or something to offset the heat needed for the shrink wrap to act.
Will do. Probably wet the towel a little too. What is this hair looking stuff anyway? I found some large hawk feathers. They any good for decor? Feathers are white and gray/grey.Quote:

I use extra select craft hair with good results, longer hair and less under fuzz. I use a mustache comb to remove the fuzz and cuts way down on the bulk of the jig. Be careful about picking up feathers off the ground because most are not legal to use. Buy feathers or if you go duck hunting use them as they are great material too! For sure never even think about picking up an Eagle Feather at all. There are only a few people in the country that can do that without major risk of big fines! Mostly Native American Indians are allowed. Other than that most items are fair game. Craft fur is easy to tie with and works good too. The original Craft Fur has a color that the Extra Select doesn't and one is especially good for crappie. That color is Black Frost and it starts out Black and pretty soon turns to Silver or White. A guide friend turned me on to this one and it's very good. He ties it full length and has no issue with any trouble because of length. He ties it on a Black head and then just thread tying it on and no body materials at all. You could tie this one very easy to tie and catch lots of crappie on this one!

Thanks Skip. Can the material withstand a little heat from a heat gun? I use an electric paint stripper on low power to shrink tubing. I am not a jig maker by no means. I have lots of jig heads and tubes, etc. that I have won on c.com and also many given to me from folks here on c.com. I have a lifetime supply, but I never turn down a gift. It is an honor to be recognized by the good folks on c.com.
I have a green head in the freezer that was to be mounted. It has thawed and has frostbite due to power failures. I might thaw it and pluck it. Never thought about duck feathers. I have a few hanging on the wall. I know little of tying, but I am good with wiring and heat shrink. We all possess some "worth".
Looking forward to seeing some of what you come up with Tom. The way your mind works there is good things coming, I have no doubt.
Man I don't know of craft fur will take heat or not??? Big question for sure!
On on the Duck feathers, use the flank and if you have a friend that Duck hunts just get the. To save the flank feathers for you. Put them in the freezer for a couple days, then take out and let thaw for a day, then back on the freezer for a couple days. This is to kill off Amy bugs and their eggs that may hatch after that middle thaw. Then you can die them to get colors you want. Fatman is the resident expert at dying materials and will help I am sure if you go down that road!
