Nice fish. Major Craft Fine Tail Area....nice rod. Soon as I quit spending money on the boat want to get a Fine Tail Banshee.
Regards
How did it compare to the high end U.S. brands you have used?
Ah - can't part with the money without the Zorro test, LOL.
I do like the MC lower end rods - ton of fun.
Rambler - the higher end rods I'm not real familiar with but I can imagine they are wands. The mid level and entry level rods are a blast!! Some really can cast the UL jigs - far. I look for how the tip imparts action to jigs, casting, and hook set.
I still like St. Croix Panfish series an Gloomis - hard to put them away.
Thanks for the info Ledhed. I use the St. croix panfish series and really like them. I have been wondering how much the better, if at all, the major craft rods are and if they are worth the extra money.
If you ever start fishing medium to high end range JDM rods IMHO you won't want to fish with any US domestic rods. The thing to know about JDM rods is they design a rod around the particular specie they are wanting to fish for. The Fine Tail Area rod is designed for trout...at least with the action the Japanese want for trout. I have bought 9 rods out of Japan. Their lower end rods are OK but not worth me having one shipped. I have bought 4 rods from Major Craft...one low end....two medium end.....and the high end Truzer. I won't need any rods for a while but when I do they will come out of Japan.
Regards
Thanks for the info Randy. Since the Japanese don't have a bluegill specific rod, which rod have you found best suited for fishing 1/64 oz jigs like your trout magnets? Also, in your opinion, where is the best place to order from and how long does shipping take?
Rambler....SeaRay...I will do a write up on JDM rods as they relate to our panfish in a separate thread tomorrow....don't want to hijack LedHed's thread.
Regards
Like to see a comprehensive post on the Japanese style rods also...
Very surprised there is not more information, in the US, on the UL fishing styles from Japan. Not Tenkara but Ajing & Mebaru (saltwater) or Trout/Bass (freshwater).
Not trying to be nosey and all but what kind of bait is that, never seen one
beautiful rod ...whats one worth ?
I'm sure he will answer....but you can get that rod delivered to your door for about $150. Don't know how much longer that one will be available as Major Craft has a new model Fine Tail Area Banshee in the market. The new model is about $270 delivered. I have said many times...once one starts fishing with rods out of Japan there is no going back.
Regards
Nice looking rod
Joel - the jig is a 1/48th chub head, tyed with a belly spinner. Awesome bait for big BGs.
Ketchn - Ah summoned it up pretty good - this one was ~$180 shipped. Some can get very expensive and there are some on the lower end that are some pretty good rods too. I also agree that it is extremely tough to put these rods down and go back to using "standard" spinning rods. I was a bit skeptical about fishing carbon rods - not anymore!
I know a good rod is one of those things that you grow mighty fond of ....
I have a couple of Tica rods that they discontinued and I am rather fond of the both of them myself ....
of course they didn't cost a lot but they are nice rods for sure
thanks for the reply .....sure would love to ketch some bluegill like those there brutes
mighty fine
