WHAT GRUBS DO YOU GUYS USE IF SO
I use midsouth super tubes most of the time, some bobby garland baby shad. Not so many curl tail grubs.
This is very much personal preference and what you have confidence in and success with. On Savannah River chain, I like Crappie Country and Kalins. Also like the Bobby Garland 2" strollers. Need a jig where the tail action moves easily. Some cheaper jigs don't have good action IMO. The curly tails work well for trolling and casting over brush. Colors vary but I like to have a bright colored jig head of some kind (Orange, pink, chartreuse, etc). I like 1/16 oz jigs. Add pinch weight or speed up to vary depth. Just works for me....Find the fish in good numbers and willing to bite and lots of different jig types work well. Others on here way more qualified than me to answer this...
It really depends on how you plan to fish them. Because we have a lot of guys that troll must of us will have curly tails grubs mainly but you also need to have other baits like the baby shad because sometimes less movement is better. Don't over look Charlie Sliders, they work! and the Bobby Garland baby shad and their 2 1/2'' baits are good also. If you plan to jig I can see getting some tubes and I do think some of the spider riggers use tubes for tight line trolling.
How many jig boxes are you planning to have?? :) LOL
I don't use a lot of plastics and I'm sure some of the other will give you some advice also.
1 BOX
David, I use curly tails and hair jigs. I saw Ofishbizzness catch quite a few crappies at Wateree this past spring on sliders and I think I'll add them to my collection in my box this year.
I see you say 1 box! How big is that box? LOL
Bobby Garland baby shad and kalins is all you need, I got 6 or 7 boxes full, but all I use most of the time is kalin and bobby garlands. vertical jig all the time. Back when i trolled alot, I used kalins curly tails most of the time.
brett, it was amazing that he caught some fish. He hogged all the rods and only let me see the fish as he was throwing them back. He had one of those days lighting couldn't hit him if it tried.:cheers2
He may of had a sack rocks , just tossing them in
" I'll just throw this one back"
Kerrrrrsplashhhhh
Crappie country jigs work well for me as do the sliders. X2 on the bright head color.
I troll with Charlie Brewer sliders and Big Bites, Southern Pro, and Crappie Country curly tail grubs. During the spring and fall/winter I like some of Stumphunter's jigs too. It pays to carry a few different colors too.:biggrin
Ive always been a sucker for pretty jig bodies. The thing is I always found myself fishing with only a few colors. The last couple years I've really concentrated on long lining. As I've gotten older it gets harder for my simple mind to choose combination. Now I only fish with about 8 different colors. As far as jig heads it's unpainted or black. It makes things much more simple and I believe I'm catching more fish. All curly tail. All mentioned above will work. I also like strike kings new products.
As far as long line trolling goes, I prefer Kalins too. I have maybe 50 to 60 colors in my box, but like ReelDawg, I found myself using the same general ones most of the time and have narrowed my selection down to the following; Black&Chartreuse, Blue/Black&Chartreuse, Garnet/Black&Chartreuse, Green/Yellow&Chartreuse, White&Chartreuse, Blue/White&Chartreuse. I pair these with either a Blue, Pink, or Orange 1/16 or 1/32 ounce head and have had no problem catching plenty of fish.
Now Tim, you know that "Garnet/Black&Chartreuse" jig only catches Gamecocks!! :Rofl:Rofl
Have always had great success using gulp saltwater fishing but in the last year started trying the curly tail on crappie Working pretty good but my go to is Hal fly all white (they are getting hard to find)
