This is not what you are asking for, but it might point you in the direction you want to go.

I've seen that thanks. I have been going fishing near Astor for years and was always going to fish the bombing range, well last year I made a plan to go out there a couple of days, and then I hear after 60+ years they have pulled all the wood poles that formed the range. So I get some GPS numbers of the old range but finding the barge was like a needle in a hay stack. I have to believe someone has the numbers for it. JC
I do not. But I doubt someone is gonna just post up gps numbers for it either.
Crying shame they pulled the best structure in the lake.
There is a lot in that bombing range that are real popular with folks. I know eeveral in FCC that are very fond of it.
The gentleman I bought my boat from fished there for years. He was telling me about finding the sunken barge at Bombing Range 2(?) and that's was a good place. He also gave me a handheld GPS that he used and it may be on there. I'll try to go thru my junk tomorrow and find the GPS he let me have. Maybe I can find out some info on it for you.
I appreciate the help everyone. I come down 2 times a year from Ohio to fish. I always try to find new places every year. JC
I may have a GPS number for this spot if TNT does not have it. This spot is a very good crappie spot year round BUT it is also very dangerous for smaller boats. If the wind picks up at all, most will need to leave. It is 7+ miles to the South Jetties.
Biggest Crappie ever taken in competition by the Florida Crappie Club was taken this
year in Lake George - off the Jetties....... single poling them
George Parker & Tim Eberly - landed a 3 pounder plus.
Second place that day went to Don Collins & Rusty - they worked the
old targets in George.
The Barge in question you are asking about is gone was pulled out few years
back.
Kinda of an old wives tale - about the big ones on the barge in George.
Woodriffe off the St Johns. south of Astor has produced a few 3 pounders.
depending on time of year.

Should or could help you on what lakes and equipment to use to locate crappie
at what times of year.
