There is something interfering with the beam a few feet to the left of the transducer. It looks like it could be turbulence in the water......do you have this at all speeds as well as drifting. Is this a transom transducer? What is your speed? Is the trolling motor running?
+1 What kind of boat? Appears to be a few fish off left side and water column near bottom.
Is it always like this ...or just a sudden anomaly ...??
Rickie
I bet your transducer is on the right side of the motor. If so it is the prop wash from your motor. Try trimming your motor up while scanning. I have mine mounted on my jack plate so i dont get this on my screen but I have seen other units do the same because the transducer is mounted too close to the motor
Haven't been on since I posted. Yep its interface from the troller, but that's not what I'm talking about. I've gotten used to that. Hadn't noticed the specs in the water column, is that what they look like? I have no clue.
My problem is look at the depth and then look at the water column depth. Water column is right if it matters.
It did that several times last week. I could pull my ducer up and out of the water for a second, put it back and it works fine again. Water column was always the right depth all day.
Here are a few things to check ... ::
"Water Type" setting under the Sonar tab to "Fresh" ...
"Max Depth" setting under Sonar tab to 10' below deepest water in your lake ...
"Noise Filter" setting under Sonar tab to as low as possible without excess clutter showing ...
"Restore Defaults" under Setup tab ...
Check xducer for level with the water surface ...

Think my max depth is set to auto
Something about the water and the ducer. Clean the transducer and then wipe the water over it when you first put in the lake. Can't remember where I seen that but worth a try. Ferdi
In 2d, I sometimes get double the depth readings in water <10' and certain bottom types on both my 788 and 988, but I have never seen it show on the water column on side image view. There must be something different with ping rates in the two views.
Turn down the sensitivity if everything else fails.
Ok! I'm a newbe here, but I think I can help. The lines on the image are "range" lines not depth. HB si pings straight down and to the sides 40 feet from Your boat. The boat is over 22.5 feet of water. The period between 22 and 5 is 30 feet to the left of boats path. Part of the school of fish are 10 feet to the left of boat's path.
Ok, forgot to mention....In shallow water, the 2d bounces off the boat bottom back to bottom and back to transducer, showing two lines of the bottom. In 2d hit menu, arrow down to depth, change to couple of feet deeper below bottom, get rid of second line, and you will see more of what is under the boat. I use this button more than anything else on the machine.
