I got a new batch of Arkie 350 crankbaits and I thought I would come out to Cypress to see if they work.

I wasn't able to deploy all rods before they started catching

How are you maintaining the correct speed? I run my trolling motor on the lowest setting and it's going too fast. I was thinking of putting a coupe of 5 gallon buckets behind the boat to see if this slows me down.
That will work....drill a half a dozen 3/4 inch holes around bottom of bucket....you can hang one on each side off of your rear cleats. I use a Minn Kota Terrova with I-Pilot and can set speed just right. But yeh the buckets work....I used them in the early days of this addiction when I started pulling cranks 7 years ago.
Y'all must have some bodacious trolling motors. MY 12V I-Pilot on lowest setting is about .1 MPH. Tight lining at .5 MPH is usually around 2.5 to 3 on the Pilot. Don't y"all pull cranks at 1.5 MPH or more? That is about 70% of max on mine, I can get up to about 3 or 4 MPH if the wind is not blowing.
I run my 24 volt 70 lb. Terrova with I Pilot pulling cranks anywhere from 1.6 to 2.2 mph. The hotter the water temp the faster I pull them. I started out pulling with a 115 Yamaha four stroke....it would not go slow enough at idle so I put a Troll a Matic trolling plate on it.....and that worked good...I would tie the steering wheel straight with a bungie cord and steer with a 40 lb. trolling motor. Then I traded boats and went to the bigger Terrova trolling motor.
Were you pushing as well as pulling? If so, was pushing just as effective?
What type line and what lb line do you use? Thanks
I mostly use 10 lb. mono Cabelas Pro Line in high vis yellow so I can see my lines good when I turn. I try to run four feet of separation between them.
I was running mono
But now using depth hunter braid 20lb test
Hey G fix'n to put together another arkie crank bait order, after the clown what would you recommend?
