As mentioned in a previous post:
If your motor "Pee Hole" is plugged, Steelguy recommends using a tooth pick to clear the debris.
Yankee Doodler says to use a piece of brazing wire
My favorite was from "D" who said to use a piece of weed eater wire.
A friend of mine in Florida made "pee hole" plugs for his outboards.....seems they were made of plastic and as soon as he was done, he capped up the hoes to keep mud daubbers etc. out. If anyone is interested I'll ask him for details and pics.
I had the same problem with my Honda kicker one year..darn bug made a nest in it..it is a short section of rubber hose.. I fooled 'em tho, plugged it with a golf tee..used to do that as a auto mechanic, to plug vacuum lines..works a treat
That's funny, in construction, when we ran across door hinges with stripped out screws, we used to pound a golf tee in, cut off the head, then put a screw back in. Worked like a champ.
Didn't know about the steel wool trick. Thx five.
Redneck tip of the day:
We use bread wrapper twist ties to clean hard to reach holes and places in firearms. The wire is lite and easy to bend yet protected with the vinyl outer wrap. Works exceptionally well to clean the plug hole where your 209 primer shoots the fire down through the breach of an In-line muzzle loader.
Torch files used to clean the ends of cutting torches also work really well to clean fouled breach plugs!
Redneck treestand safety:
Being as it is getting to be that time of year, I figured this one might help out.
Many of the trees we use on my property are so big that we cannot get our arms around them to secure wratchet straps and safety lines. It is hard to bear hug the tree and then try to throw one end of the line around the tree and grab it. Over the years, two things have worked well for me.
1. I utilize a piece of 12/2 w ground electrical wire (yellow). It will hold up really well and you can easily keep it's shape while sliding it around the backside of the tree. You can create a quick loop with it, attach your safety rope or strap and bring it back around the tree to your other hand.
2. I carry and old 8 foot folding ruler. I believe it folds every 8 inches. I attach a screw in eye hook to one end. While up in the tree, I am able to extend out enough of the ruler and fold it around the tree, affix my rope to the screw in eye, and then pull it back to my other hand.
The ruler is my favorite and stays in my pack when I setup tree stands.
Have only had the pontoon a couple weeks, but already getting some lessons. If you have one and use or like to use a drift sock? Put a dog snap under your boat and another one on your drift sock and hook them together. Your drift sock is under the pontoon out of the way of any fish you bring in. You can attach a piece of rope so the sock will be down in the water. Attach your "dump line" to a corner cleat so you can pull the sock in when your ready to go.
Good tips on tree stand safety..you CANNOT be too safe doing that
Ever forget to put plug in boat? Have you ever forgot where the plug is? I lock mine on the tongue of the trailer.
Yooper cooler:
I lived in the upper peninsula for 22 years and this one has stuck with me for a long time, used it often to this day.
Í stopped in to a place that sells barley pops and asked for a 12 pack to go, lady says don't you live a ways from here? How you gonna keep those pops cold? I had no answer....she said how about I make you up a Yooper cooler? And she promptly pulled out a garbage bag (new) put three heaping scoops of ice in the bag, my barley pops and I was on my way!
Easy cheap and it works for keeping anything cold when you don't have a conventional cooler.
Steve,
In my drinking days, we used to do this: Buy a case of beer and a bag of ice. Remove half the beer from the case and pour in half a bag of ice, the beers we removed would then go into the bag containing the other half of the ice! How well it worked is still a blur at this point in time~!
I took a few Salmon home in a yooper cooler before when I forgot mine.
Come to think of it, I packed a bear home in a yooper cooler (from the UP no less). Wrapped the bear in a garbage back, laid him in the bottom of a giant tote, and emptied half the ice chest at the motel before I duct taped the lid closed. Worked like a champ. Rug is still hanging on the wall at my dad's place.
Rich, I used to have a big chest freezer I kept bear bait in, one hunter got his bear so we put it in the freezer since most of the bait was gone it was a good place to "freeze"a bear until the hunter was ready to go home. This one fella had a four wheeler in the bed of his truck when he was ready to go home and no place to put the bear, so.....we put the bear on the four wheeler, tied it's paws to the handlebars and off he went for home. I can only imagine the stares he got on his way home from people along the way.....a bear sitting upright on a quad in the back of a pickup going across US2 isn't a common sight!
Yooper cooler sounds like a handy and cheap idea. Have to give it a try.
For the boat plug, I attach it to the boats keyring with one of those ring clasps. Haven't forgotten about it yet and easy tot remove for use each time. Hard to forget about that giant plug taking up space in the pocket and digging into your though.

I've found that the easiest way to add oil to mowers, tillers, etc is with the $4.00 pump I bought for putting gear lube in the lower unit on my boat. Screw it on the bottle of motor oil, run a little through to clear the gear lube in the line and pump oil into your mower without spills. Also, for those with apple trees, an aluminum roof rake is the easiest way to rake up the drops out of the grass. It doesn't grab the grass like a garden rake and you can use the roof rake to scoop and dump the apples into buckets.
Jerry, I'm glad I read that. I never thought of that. That is a hell of an idea. I cannot count the number of times I used to collect apples as a kid and use them for deer bait (many years ago). We used to put a tarp around the tree and climb up and shake them off. It was always a bear to get them out of the grass. A roof rake. Who would have thought. Of course, now living in souther Michigan, I have little use for a roof rake!
okay, dumb southerner here, What's a roof rake. Never mind, looked it up. Never need one down here.haha Might be good in a sand trap.
If you pull a trailer you will eventually find yourself in the situation we did recently while going to Louisiana. Middle of the night and no trailer lights. An easy solution is to carry a pair of red, battery operated, LED lights that go on the back of bicycles and a few zip ties. Turn on the lights, zip tie them to the rear of the trailer and away you go. This should get you by till you can fix the problem properly.
OK, here's another one. I stumbled on this one by accident. This time of year I get those small brown ants on my counter tops. Usually I put out ant motels and spray with ant killer but hate spraying that stuff where I prepare my meals. About a week ago I saw my annual visitors were back and when I reached for the ant spray, I was out. The only thing I had as a bottle of super concentrated Deep Woods Off in a small pump type bottle. I figured what could it hurt so I sprayed some of the Off where the ants usually come in, around my kitchen window casing, and I haven't had another ant in the house since. Does it work or doesn't it? The jury's still out but I think it does. Off is also good for when you get tar or construction adhesive on yourself. Melts the tar or glue away and the smell washes off better than gas smell.
A good one from my Marine Corps days
Camo face paint was always a bear to take off. At one point in time, I had worn it for so many days in a row, I thought my skin would never come back to normal. I ended up coming across something that takes the stuff off with very minimal scrubbing.... Barbisol shaving cream! It also works well to get grease and grim off from your hands.
I can't take credit for this, I read it on a Lowrance FB feed:
To get rid of those fingerprint smudges on your electronics screen safely, get a small spray bottle and mix 50% rubbing alchohol and 50% water. Spray on your screen and wipe away with a micro fiber cloth.
Been wanting to build this for some time so I been picking away at it the last few days
Removed the cable and machined the spindle for a gear to slide over and added a keyway Attachment 277956
Also mounted some bearings to a bearing block
Attachment 277957
Had to weld a hub to a gear
Attachment 277958
Need to buy a few more things, any idea what I'm making
Found a scrap plate at work and this will be the main plate everything gets bolted to

Well, since I was asked..........
Are we allowed multiple guess'?
1. My first guess is that you know my High School Prom date, and do NOT want anyone to know you got the hots for her.......
Its a Winch to get her into the back of your truck????? Gonna need more than 2500# Winch, try some bait, Snickers, Ice Cream, probably some custom ramps to made as well.
Better yet, just back up to a dirt hill, and drop the gate, and she will bolt for the the ice cream. (Hint, Throw the Snickers off the truck to unload when you are done)
2. You are making something to pull the dent out of my truck where my wife hit my truck last night?
3. you are making a winch to put at my house to help remove the tarp and ladders on my roof from the discovery of last nights leak over the bathroom section of the house?
4. Its going to be mounted at Morrison Lake on the Dock for Key Retrieval?
5. You are going to mount it on the front of your new boat so all your fishing buddies can tow you off the water, cuz that new boat is to technologically advanced for fishing use?
6. You are going to mount it to the back of your boat to tow ME off the water? (My boat is not advanced, is just piloted by a Pollack)
7. You are going to use the new boat as a deer drag, go over to Rich's place, and practice your backing skills? Back up to cable length, and drag Rich's deer out of the woods for him?
8. You are going to make it portable, so you can hold up King Salmon for photos? That last picture we took, the fish was a big as you, your eyes were about to pop out......
9. You are going to start a guide service with the new boat, and its your "Easy Retrieve" decoy line for geese?
10. Downrigger for Lake Michigan Sharks?
11. SnowCow Escape system, when you are fishing North of the Bridge?
12. Its a modified Boat Trailer winch for getting your new boat onto the trailer. Your old boat as Max Weight capacity of 1,550# Max load, and you could crank that by hand, BUT the new one is 2,200# Capacity, and you are not very muscular, Thus the 2,500# Winch. Which is a good idea as you would tie up the docks for weeks trying to crank that up by hand.
So you are making a electric Boat Winch, to pull the boat up onto the trailer, to avoid the torque from spinning you on the crank handle like a top. Once Question, you going to make an electric remote control for it also? That would be SWEET.
I think Superman wins with his dozen highly imaginative answers...........
Question, if it does get used at Morrison Lake on the Dock for Key Retrieval will it be named Jerry?
