I have a Bass Pro XPS charger, I think that is correct model. It is an 8 amp charger.
It takes over way over 24 hrs to get the green light saying it is through. Its been on the amber light for 12 hrs now, saying it is conditioning.
I think this is way too long, I even bought a thicker extension cord. :banghead
I assume you have a set of wires going to each battery. That sounds normal for the first time you charge the batteries with that charger but if it does it all the time I would have the batteries load tested.
They are brand new batteries from BassPro
They may be .... but, what's the date sticker say when they were made ?? They could have been sitting in a whse or on the shelf for months before you bought them. I have yet to buy a battery that was over 80% charged, straight off the shelf.Quote:

But, regardless ... having the batteries load tested will eliminate a lot of questions. And the charger "could be" at fault, but I don't know how you'd test/determine that. Catfan would probably be the one to contact ... he's our resident battery expert.

I can show you stacks of brand new bad batteries.
You have a very small charger. If the batteries have any size to them, it can take a long time.
I assume this is 8 amps split between two banks which is only 4 amps per battery. This could take a while on 2 Group 27 or larger batteries. Be sure you have it set up to charge the right type of battery you have also. The charger should show fault if there is a bad battery. You also might want to check fuses to power wires on each bank.
I don't have any fuses set up from the charger to the battery. Basspro said bring it in and they would swap it out, saying it is a bad charger.
I think I will try to upgrade.
I agree on upgrade but you should have fuses on positive wires from battery to charger. On both banks close to battery. On a 24 volt system I would get a 3 bank 10 amp per bank system. I plug mine in as soon as I get boat cleaned and leave it plugged in till next trip. Batteries are always hot.Quote:

Load testing a deep cycle battery is useless. Voltage shows state of charge.
My 10amp charger takes about 6 hours to charge the larger bat from 12.2v
The voltage of the system is not a factor..the current is what counts..the ideal charger will keep the voltage to 14.2-14.6 area and the current level will be as high as the batteries will accept..if the batteries will accept 20, or 30 amps and your charger can not deliver, that is your problem..bottom line...get a bigger charger! as you can see, this is why higher amp chargers are the way to go..and why they cost more..I know money is always a concern for all of us, but you will do your batteries a favor by getting the best you are able too.my system is 36v, and my charger is 15 amp per channel..it was not cheap either..HTH..5
