Ok guy/gals... Im getting ready to buy another electric knife as I don't know if my old American Angler is going to last thru the year... I love my old knife and want to go back with the American Angler PRO but after reading some reviews I just don't know if its worth the $100... Does anyone have one or know someone that uses one? How are they holding up? Or do you recommend another brand?
I use my Rapala 110v with 6" blades for bluegill. For larger cats or even larger crappie I would be using a common kitchen electric knife for the power .

Hamilton Beach from Wal-Mart. They have more power than most fillet knives and are cheap.
I got a 10 dollar black and decker from walmart and it has been runnin 3 years now without a problem.... when it quits I will be buying another..... just look in the appliance section... I have burnt up a bunch of mr. twister (the green and yellow ones) and several of the rapalas over the years but the black and decker has held up.
Mr Twister use to make the best but that was years ago. I sure wouldn't buy one now.

This would be a good time for the manufacturers of electric fillet knives to take note. There is a good demand here for a "no bull electric fillet knife". This would need to be made with good metal gears and internal parts(not plastic junk that breaks and wears out quickly)and good sharp blades. With enough power to cut threw good size fish (crappie, catfish,bass,etc.) rib bones. People are getting tired of junk electric knives. I know I have went threw a lot of electric knives myself but will not say which ones. The companies already know this by bad reviews and returns to stores. This could be the time for a company to step up and make a lot of $$$$. But fishermen don't want junk.( Did not mean to hi jack your post coriemassey but I think you are like everyone else needing a good electric knife) A lot of companies and sellers read and take note here on Crappie.com.:twocents
Another vote for B&D from whatever source you want. I buy the kitchen versions for around $10. When the blades get dull or the motor quits, I buy a new one. Just pitch the old one and move on. My latest B&D has been going to four years!! Maybe I need to catch more fish!! LOL!
I prefer the "Wife 1.0" version.
If she doesn't work, or refuses to clean fish, it might be time to upgrade to "Wife 2.0" or "Offspring 1.0". I would also accept "Neighbor Kid 1.0, 2.0, or 3.5 (he's a little slow)"
All kidding a side, I've heard the same about the B&D. I'm and old school "by hand" guy myself and enjoy Forsner Knives.

Here's a tip....buy 2. When one starts heating up lay it down and keep on keeping on till it warms up n swap out. Extended the life on mine as I'm sure they have plastic gears too but for the price you can't go wrong !!
I have the American angler pro. Been a good knife so far. The blades are super sharp. I used a Hamilton Beach knife with fillet blades. After two years I smoked it. Replaced it with the American angler pro with two sets of blades. So far it has done a great job with power to spare.
I use the AA pro also. I average close to a hundred fish a week using it and it holds up very well. I've gone thru a couple sets of blades a year but I clean a lot of fish and don't expect them too last forever. The motor runs strong and I'm on my third season with them.Quote:

I have a Rapala Lithium Rechargeable fillet knife, two months out of warranty the batteries won't take a charge. Charger seems to be putting out. $60 for a year of usage doesn't work out well, but I did like the knife while she worked, just a little heavy.
Does anyone know how many amps a BD kitchen knife draws? BD's website doesn't say. I have a 600 watt invertor and would like the option to use at the lake. Buying 2 of these and switching out seems like a pretty good plan.
All I can tell you is what I did and tried. I use to have a Mr. Twister that was great for many years, but finally it went South and I bought another one just like it I thought! It didn't have the power the old one did and I sent it back and bought the American Angler Pro since I couldn't find a better option from reading things. Once I got it there are a few small things I didn't care for, but it's doing a pretty good job and may need more than one set of blades so it's good to have the options that one comes with. I will not say it is as good as my older Mr. Twister, but I will say it's a lot better than the Mr. Twister they sell today!Quote:

Got the Wal Mart Black & decker for $12 a couple weeks ago. In the home appliance section. Im quite impressed. We'll see how long it holds up.
I also really like how the blade is offset closer toward the table so your knuckles stay out of the way.

I'm with you on the Mr. Twister story. I've used em for years then bought a new one and suddenly feel like I've gone crazy and lost my fish butchering skills. Something is different about the new MT's...I thought it was the blades or lack of smoothness in the motor. I also thought it was just me. I'm glad I found this thread to save my sanity. I am moving on to another brand. Thanks all for saving my 'fish cleaning life.' Dang it...Wal-Mart here I come:dono.
