From all the pics I have seen various places, it looks surprisingly clear. I am not sure about up river from say Walls, but I know from the 145 Bridge back towards Kings and Little Patoka it looked good. Also around the dam looked good. Again, I am speaking from pics I have seen posted this weekend.
I fished Patoka this weekend. Water was good color around Osborne and across 145 towards the beach area. Sunday I put in at Lick Fork and went as far as the beach area a little clearer. Saturday morning the recreational boaters and jet skis got started early. Sunday there was much less traffic.
I give up. Weather man this morning is predicting over next 3 days more than 3" of rain again in most places of southern Indiana. I already feel like a prune when trying to fish. Spending more time drying out gear than fishing.
And to think you were trolling crankbaits!!!! Welcome to the club gone_fishing! :cheers2
I was out there Sat morning. Went under bridge at 145 had bout 6" to spare. Fish for awhile then thought I better back across before it got to rough. Before it beats windshield and motor up. Today had 2" in less then 1 1/2 hrs.
was there yesterday and this morning. Water is a little stained, ramps are fine. Getting under the bridge by south ramp is touchy, about 3ft total clearance. I put in at painters, and fished that end of the lake, so didn't have any problems. If you are wanting to fish the river side I'd use one of the ramps on that side of the lake unless you have a really low boat.
Lake has come up about a half a foot with todays rain so far and probably going to come up more this week with the additional rains we get thru Sat. morning. Cubswim....how did you do fishing? thx.
can you get out on the pier at Osbourne ???
No the peer and beach was closed by DNR
I was bass fishing, and struggled. Biggest was about 4 3/4 lbs, but was late monday before I figured out what I could get bites on. Was going to fish tuesday morning, and then the rains came about 6:30. Was pouring, and I don't like to fish in the pouring rain, so called it a day.
Been catching a lot of bass on Patoka myself just by picking up a extra rod while crappie fishing as I see them feeding in the flooded brush and timber with a buzz bait or spinner bait. lol Try flo green and white skirts, or black and white and even put a 3" trailer on like a 3" curely tail on them. . Bass are going nuts in the high water right now. I carry about 8-10 diff rods and 50 lbs of diff tackle with me. Way too much,,but ready for anything.
Was a tough day, hot a humid. Started about 3 on monday, and fished until about 8:45. Caught 1 pretty quick flipping jigs up in the flooded trees, and then didn't have a bite until 8:15. Had one about 5lbs try to grab my jig off of a bush limb about 4 pm, kept me fishing shallow. Well I was actually getting bites before 8:15, just little dinks. Moved out to deeper water, fishing submerged weeds that normally would be 1-2ft of water, and now were in 10-12ft of water. Caught two good ones off one spot, the other spot I wanted to fish had a boat sitting on it. Thought I'd get out in the morning and hit some more of the same types of areas, and it was windy and pouring rain 1/2 hour after I launched.
Wouldn't mind if I lived down there, but it was a 3 1/2 hour drive, and the weather forecast was fine at 12:30 am when I went to bed. Said I'd have 4-5 hours of fishing time tuesday.
Trust me, you did better than you think. I know a lot of semi-pro anglers with sponsors who fish down there regularly and never have that much action in a day. Last time I was been on the lake when a bass tourney was going on, everyone had either caught nothing or or they were too short. I have fished Patoka for 30 years and have yet to catch a 4 pounder.
I just sight fish them when the occasion arrises.
Drove over to Lick Fork ramp to check it out. The dock is in good shape and you wont have to get wet to get on it. Was going to hook up the boat but by the time I got home (4+ miles)it was pouring again.
I talked with a guy on July 4 that was having boat troeble by 145 hope that wasn't you Cubswin. Also saw someone pull a nice bass in the boat when I was going back under the bridge to Osborne.
Wasn't me, I went down monday morning, left tuesday morning. Boat trouble always sucks. Had that happen to me a few weeks ago, went to hook up the boat at 5 am and had no power. Forgot to turn off master power, and plug in the charger. Felt bad for my buddy who had already driven 20 minutes to meet me.
Lake is super high and rising with last nites rain. Watched a pontoon boat squeeze under 145 bridge after telling them lake was still coming up and they might get caught on other side if they stayed on main body too long, lol. Tried cranking Painter,,with no luck, but did catch a few small dinks and lots of yellow bass before catch couple of 10 inchers in a north bay near main lake, then went out to the islands north of swimming beach. Caught a couple on cranks at the island closest to beach about 11" and tried the island north of it,,which is totally now under water,,all fish suspended everywhere with high pressure system,,no luck around it with pleasure boaters rocking me by 11am so got off lake and decided to wait for a weekday to hit it all again. Be careful where you launch as at Painter Creek,,you will step in lots of Goose Poo. :Rofl
