This is my test unit. Really impressed with how fast it works and how bright the screen is. If you've used any core unit this will be an effortless change. The pages, menus and features are all very familiar.

Will the helix 7 DI GPS use the same transducer as my helix 5 DI?
That looks awesome.

External GPS is not supported in the Helix line ...
Humminbird | HELIX 7 SI GPS
I would imagine the center "COM" port is for factory testing ...

I wonder if someone smarter than me could jailbreak a helix unit to make it network able. I know a lot of technologies "aren't available" on entry level models when. In reality they are just internally throttled. Waiting for someone to figure out the hack.
Doug says the Helix does support an external GPS, but it must be powered separately ..... The unit won't power it......I don't know how it has to be hooked up ...... Might be worth a call to customer service to find out.
Without the ability to connect an external GPS, the waypoint accuracy of a console unit would suffer.
I wasn't referencing the accuracy of the GPS itself ......Marking waypoints is always more accurate when the GPS antenna is close to the transducer ..... with the internal GPS at the console and the transducer at the transom ..... This would cause some built in inaccuracy of the waypoint.
