Trolling cranks tips wanted

Going to stay at the cabins at Goosepond for 4 nights at the end of July, plan on taking a light to do alittle night fishing. Never trolled crankbaits before and want to try it during the day. I almost bought some 300 bandits today but I then thought "I've got a ton of old 8-12 foot divers in the shed" so I bought some new treble hooks to put on them after I clean them up/ paint them.

Reading everything possible to learn up on this to hopefully have some success at it. Figured it would be best to ask the local experts and this is the place for that. Should I look for them on the river channel edges, creek channels, deep humps??? Also what colors, depth of diving and speeds are prefered?

Any information is greatly appreciated as the extent of my crappie knowledge is tying under a bridge and watching a minnow while I cast jigs around. Thanks in advance!

I'm no expert by any means but I've caught a bunch trolling cranks I stay around one mile and hour and fish the first dtop off out from where I catch them in the spring. On cloudy days I like to troll in front of the docks Icatch them on dock shooting. I don't catch many but I caught two over 3 lbs this year on the arkie cranks. Those cranks will catch some of the biggest crappie in tge lake

Amen to that. Arkies that is. Pushed cranks mostly around Goosepond Mink Creek. Stay off the grass. ledges on channel best

We run 1.5 to 1.8 with bandit 300's around underwater creek banks and drop off edges .Somedays they are good and somedays not.Best colors are hot pink and orange crawdad. Water temp right now on the big G is 88° around the bridges.I would think it is hotter in shallower parts of the lake. Best bet would be to find callshy and follow him around................KIDDING HA

Thanks, now I need a description of CallShy haha. I got a green LED light to try under the bridge at night but want something to do during the warmer hours of the day since trolling will be alittle cooler than sitting still, until I decide to return to the cabin to nap in the AC!

I ran all last ear and caught very few. I was running to deep. I am catching a few each time I go. With 300 Bandits I am running between 25 to 40 feet of line behind the boat. You will have to find your color for the moment and go that route. The water I fish is normally pretty clear and I use more shad type colors one of the best is the crappie 300. Yep they eat their young and this year it has been my top bait. I run 1.7 MPH.

End of July... I may be able to do some fishing by then. I would go with some Bandit 300 type diving baits (equivalent Arkies and others will work as well) and try along the river channel edges close to the mouths of the creeks. Not as familiar with depth around the Goose Pond area but if you find 20' flats close to the river you should be able to catch some fish. We typically run between 1.8-2.2 mph. As far as night fishing, get away from the bridges and try the creek channel edge just off the main river. If you can idle around and find bait fish in the area, set up pretty close to them. We will see, hoping to get back to it next weekend.

My best days have been in 18-20 FOW trolling 300s at 16-18' deep. I usually troll at 1.6-2.2 mph and use line counting reels to control depth. I fish usually submerged road beds and creeks beds near the main channel. Find that shad patterned baits produce the best.
