I fish because I love being on the water, catching fish and for the most part the ability to get away from most people and have meaningful time with my partner of the day. I don't much care to fish alone. But my number one reason is, I forget all my problems whenever I am fishing. It is a great task to clear your mind. And let me add, I like to catch, but that is not a high priority for me.
I fish for fun and like to see others catch fish with a big smile. Nothing like seeing a kid all smiles reeling in a big fish . I also like to see folks enjoy a good fish fry. I usually don't care what kinda of fish is biting and even enjoy catch Bream for bait on small creeks around the house. Nothing like see'n a limb bouncing with a big old Catfish on a limbline too. Beginning to miss my normal haunts for Crappie with all this flood water .
I fish because I am a fisherman.
I enjoy nature, I like being away from the noise, phones, etc of work.
I enjoy fishing alone when I have something on my mind that I need to put some serious thought into. Fishing helps me work out problems because I get the time to focus on it. On the other hand, I enjoy fishing with a partner as well. Especially one who is learning a little something new.
I fish to provide food for the table, a food of my choice that is not "farm raised" and shot full of chemicals to make it grow big.
I fish to learn. New lakes, new techniques, new friends.... It all comes into play.
I better go fishing just to think about this question. Might even take more than one trip.:biggrin
Mostly because I love being outdoors and it's just a way of life for me some of my fondest memories growing up where fishing trips with my family. We would build a big fire on the banks of the river in the Atkins bottoms and kick back and wait for that ol big cat to take the bait. Going pond hopping with my brother when we where kid's we'd grab a fishing pole in one hand and a tackle box in the other say gone all day! Here recently the challenge of consistently catching crappie at different times of the year I love pushing myself to be the best fishermen or hunter I can be I fell like I owe it to people who showed me how and out of respect for the wildlife I pursue.
I love the challenge that everyday brings on the water , I love learning new techniques now matter what the species , I love spending time with my friends and family and trying to pass on what knowledge I have learned . Everyday is like a new puzzle that must try and solve and some times ( not a lot ) but occasionally I don't care if I catch a fish . I just enjoy soaking up Gods creations but I really believe it is who I am ,it is in my blood and hard to deny . I don't keep near as many fish as a lot of folks do, I really enjoy letting them swim to catch again another day .
Originally, some 30 years ago I began to fish primarily as a family activity with my wife and 2 sons. Pat and I discovered early on that it is a great stress reliever for fast pace careers. We, also, began to really appreciate God's creation up close and personal. Our family also enjoys the by-products of large fish fries. Did I mention that we accumulated about a million fond memories of trips during the years.
The most peaceful place in the world being on the water even if i'm alone fishing. The mind gets to take a break from everyday life and the stress that comes with it. I even find myself thanking the man above for the family of mine and the fruits i'm about to put in the live-well and then eat. The real reason is we meet some of the greatest and friendliest people on the water and on the ramps that become friends forever. I have learned so much from fisherman that i have never known and had just meet and to talk with them like i have new them forever. The greatest place to be, on the water fishing ! :pray:fish:cheers2:ThumbsUp
I fish because it is my Passion
I fish to bring a smile on someone's face and the joy of bringing fishing into someone's life
I fish to get away from civilization
I fish to make friends
I fish because I enjoy friendly competition
I fish for the challenge of figuring out my quarry
I fish because I love to eat and cook crappie for someone
Give someone a fish you feed them for a day...Teach someone to fish and you feed them for a lifetime.
Because I have to
Oh yeah, one more thing.

When I fish alone, I find serenity. When I fish with my sons or dad, I have a sense of closeness like no other time. When I fish with my wife, I shake my head in disbelief and tell myself, "Keep your mouth shut and enjoy the time with her. If she falls out of the boat, remember she was a lifeguard."
