Are there any crappie tournament events from now until this fall?
Don't know of any. Mt pleasant Methodist will be first Saturday in October. Carolina Crappie Association starts October 10th.
If there is enough interest in summer tx we can make them happen, just in the past participation was low.
Summertime tournaments from like 6am to 12 noon with only two fish are fun. $25 or so and winner take all. It gets hot and the pleasure boats and jet skis start about 9am. With only two fish you can keep them alive and everyone has a chance. Evening touraments from like 5pm to 8:30 could happen as well. They are numerous night stalker guys that might be doing some tournaments now.
6-12 sounds good, 6-11 even better, but keep it seven fish, to much emphasis on one big fish on a 2 fish tx. do $40 entry, 10 for big fish and 30 for the tx,pay one place every 5 boats.
how many we got interested?
Sounds like a good idea to me.
I would be interested. Some of the gold hill guys may be also. What would be considered enough interest? 20 boats?
5-10
I'd say at least 15, that way we could pay three places and make the winnings worth the effort.
Who has scales and would like to take the lead on putting together a couple of events? I would like to stick to the yadkin chain myself.
well i guess ill volunteer, i'll come up with a schedule tonight, be warned jordan and harris will be on there, see what ya'll think and if we got enough would be participants i'll call and get the permits, i have a set of decent flat scales unless someone else wants to volunteer.
ya'll think of some rules you would like to empliment and get a show of hands on the tx times.
ok i came up with three different schedules, ya'll decide, i figure we'll do 600-1130.
july4- high rock
july18-shearon harris
aug1-jordan
aug15-shearon harris
aug29-jordan
sept12-high rock (grand finally)
OR
july4-high rock
july18-shearon harris
aug1- tillery
aug15-jordan
aug29-blewet falls
sept-29 draw a lake to determine where the "grand finally" would be
third option-we could use the same dates but to eliminate prefishing we could draw a lake the night before ( friday) and call everyone to let them know where to be sat morning, i think this format is more interesting, and levels the field some but i think would get 0 outside participation.
there those are the three options i came up with, give me some feed back over the weekend and let me know so i can get the ball rolling, the 4th will be here soon.
rules should be simple,
entry fee, $40, 30 for the tx, 5 for big fish and 5 put back for the grand finale. one place paid for every five entered boats. one big fish.
pay and get your livewell checked between 5-545
no rod limit
be in wiegh in line by 1230
all fish must be caught in the mouth during hours of the tournament by the team wieghing in the fish
all nc regs apply
sportmanship will be demonstrated at all times
no alcohol
7 live fish limit
cell phones will only be used in emergency
feel free to add or suggest changes to these. if y'all want this to happen you gotta let me know.
I could probably do the scales. High Rock may not bring many people. Tuckertown,Badin,Tillery are good. I like 6am to 11am with 5 fish. Be at scales by 11:30. 16 rod limit, 2 persons per boat. $40 per boat with $10 of it going to big fish. I will be at ocean til July 5th so cant help til after that.
so is anyone else interested in doing something like this or is this a no go?
I'm checking with Charles. Boat is in for scheduled maintenance right now.
I'm interested. My boat don't have the greatest live well so if we are going to have a 5 or 7 fish limit I would like to throw a no penalty for dead fish. Since it doesn't seem like many people release them anyways.
The dead fish rule of only 1 dead with 4oz penalty has to do with people catching fish days in advance and trying to keep them til tournament day. Yes the fish are typically not returned to the lake but are alive when weighed. This is a good indication they were caught during tournament hours. I have used a cooler with big bubbles and kept them alive in the past.
what schedule format do you guys like? i need to know so i can be getting permits to have the wieghin's.
I like the first set of options. Our boat is ready to roll. I talked to Freddie yesterday and it may be hard for us Raleigh guys to fish the High Rock area with starting at 6 AM. We'll definitely plan to fish Harris/Jordan and will do all we can to get to the other ones.
Well the real problem is lack of participation, right now its me, u, and maybe two others, as it stands unless others speak up I don't foresee this moving forward.
Hopefully a few more will want to participate. We'll see what happens.
For a for fun thing $40 is steep for me.
With a $40 entry fee and for example u get 15 boats, it would pay $250, $125, $75, then big fish would be $150.
Ten boats would be $200, $100. And big fish $100.
Y'all think about it and hopefully we can get a few more participants all things considered I'm thinking of the first one july4 on Harris, let me know something and I'll post a yeah or nay by Sunday.
Would the fall work better? I could be more available to fish some during the day in late September thru October.
During the fall the Carolina crappie association has there tournaments which I would highly recommend everyone fishing, great group of guys and you will learn more about crappie fishing, this summer thing was started cause a few showed interest in doing something smaller in the " off season". These summer tx's are short ones from 6-11 be home in time to beat the heat and still cut the grass.
just a reminder tillery is next sat.
Ben and I will be at Tillery for sure.
