let the pictures do the talking.......
that is nice where did you find a lake that is not flooded?
Nice catch and pics. Been waiting for you to chime in with a report like this..... :)
Pretty fish and pics !
Awesome pics nice catch. How did you learn to pull cranks. What type of set up do you have
That is nice theygotaeat. Congratulations!
Good job
95% of what I know about cranking came from crappie.com the other five percent is getting out on the water and learning from your mistakes
Check out the stickie at the top of the Mississippi board cranking 101
I push 4 crankbaits off the front and pull 8 cranks off the back
the four push cranks have 3 ounce Scott v weights (frm Ms. board )about 3 foot above the bait, the weight acts as a downrigger
The crankbaits pulled out the back have no weight
Now all you need is some of the new Arkie 350 crankbaits that ScottV designed the colors on and I field tested. They run good and have a good wiggle. Arkie 350 Series Crankbait
Great pics and some nice fish.
Nice catch
Probably be next year......you can order them off of the Arkie website though and Grizzly Jig will be stocking them soon as well.
theygotaeat is right on! We caught these the day after Memorial Day trolling cranks. I don't mean to hijack your thread just want to add to it. I didn't catch these in LA but pretty darn close to it. The pic is about half of the days catch. And of course they are the better fish.Attachment 204959
How much weight do you normally run for pushing cranks?
I use three oz. weights for pushing crankbaits
Thanks for the input.
I have some of the 2 oz. and 3 oz. weights from Scott as well. Work nicely because I don't have as much line out. The problem with me though is catching too many catfish. I've learned not to use orange or pink because they love those colors. Still catch way too many for some reason.
What kind of area are you fishing ? I mainly follow the shad and run my cranks in open water.....get a catfish or a stripe sometimes but not often. If I push them in a cove and go up the creek I will catch more catfish. Most of our crappie are whites and in the summer they follow the shad and suspend in open water. I check their depth on my fish finder and try to run my baits a foot or two above them. They will come up a little to hit one but they wont go down. Fishing too deep will produce catfish too.
Creeks for sure catch more catfish to me, so try to stay away from them with the cranks. I've pushed/pulled on the edges of the boat lanes, over flats with grass, between the pilings on bridges, etc. Varied speed, depth, etc. Guess someone is going to have to show me. Sure is relaxing doing it though with the Ipilot.
Yep....Terrova with I-Pilot is the way to go
