I was wonderin, if the new ulterra's are the next big deal why don't I see more of the pro circuit guys fishing with electric steer TM's? Most all the tourny guys I see are still using cable steer TM's and ALL the bass pros still use the cable steer. I was wondering what the cons are to them? I obviously don't have one but what little video I've seen of people using this kind seemed noisy to me when they turned the motor.

Bass fisherman do not need power drive TMs. The Power drives are great though for crappie fisherman that like to troll with multiple rods.....you can set a course and spend time watching your rods instead of fooling with steering the boat. If your a single pole crappie fisherman then you really do not need one. I have had my Terrova with I Pilot for five years now and I would hate to do without it. Come to a crappie tournament in MS on one of the big 4 and its about all you will see.

Like you GETDANET, I mostly fish alone. The Spot Lock anchor system is the main reason why I bought mine. Works exactly the way I wanted it.
Elite BASS pro's are not allowed to troll a bait. And vet is a guber, you too 20 and "G".

Thanks for the input fellas. I guess spot lock and setting a heading can be helpful and lend an advantage for certain techniques. I follow Josh Gowan on FB and posed the same question to him. His response in short was that most top pros do and will stick to cable steer because of the exact and precise control. Power drives have more tendency to have a little over or under steer. The main areas a power drive would excel are long lining, pulling cranks and maybe a fast trolling.
And on another note I see that we've established the LA board is made up of a bunch of gubers.... :)
