New Tying Station
I wanted to share this with you guys. It's been a lot of work getting to this point.
About a month ago, my wife acquired a desk that belonged to her father. Her father passed away back in the early 80's. It was in pretty sad shape. I had to rebuild some drawers, and tighten several joints. I removed all the built up varnish and stain taking it down to bare wood. I stained it completely inside and out with a stain called Cabernet by Rustoleum, then put on 5 coats of Polyurethane. It took all month to complete. Its going to be my new tying station.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...265CA2E54B.jpg[/COLOR]

Nice work. Now you have a dedicated area to tie. Awesome!

Great job on refinish. Nothing like bringing something old back to life. I really like what you did with the handles, that is a neat touch.

Pretty fancy tying station but I'm sure that you will get many years of enjoyment.

Thanks Fellers. I started working on it the last part of April when my wife went to visit relatives. At the time, I was just going to strip and paint it, but after I removed all the old finish, that wood begged me not to cover it up. As I started looking it over, a lot of the joints were loose and some of the drawers weren't in great shape. One thing led to another and I was knee deep in restoration. The rain gave me fits as well, seems like every time I would move it to the patio to work on it, it would start raining. My shop is a small closet off the garage, that's too small to cuss a cat in, let alone work.
I'm getting ready to build a small peg board frame and Three 12" wide shelves to go above my tying area. I have a art supply cubicle with lots of drawers and a couple of those plastic storage cabinets, so I should have plenty of storage

Very nice, glad that wood begged you not to paint it!!

Nice way to spruce up a fun hobby. You done good.
-
Well done!! You can enjoy the use of it for a long time .It probably looks nicer than it was new. Wish you happy tying.

It's still a work in progress. I built a pegboard frame and installed it above the desk. I needed a place to store thread, so I built one to go all the way across the desk. I am also building 3 shelves to go above the desk.

That is the exact desk I was looking for when my wife surprised me with one for Christmas with a fold down work area. Looks real good, very nice refinish job. Those drawers will come in handy.

Thanks Guys. The wife and I spent quite a few hours on this project. It was actually fun and gave me something to look forward to when I got off work. Let the tying begin. Ahem....As soon as I find a chair. Laughing!

Awesome!! I would want that in the house to display. You made it into a beautiful piece of furniture.
