Wild Ride 5/24/15
Had a great afternoon today out on the water with a great friend! He has been pouring his own soft plastics, says he is just playing around, but they are a professional job for sure!!! Went out to one of my reservoirs and the water was terribly stained. We had no luck there. So we packed up and went to another reservoir that I hadnt fished yet this year. After about 30 minutes all we had caught were a couple dinks and then all of a sudden here come the bites we had been waiting for! We caught a couple slabs and then a dark ominous cloud blew in with what felt like 30mph winds! Thank goodness for a bimini top and spot lock on the new ulterra. When the weather was the toughest was when we got our big bites. Managed to put 6 slabs in the boat before wind and rain was gone as quickly as it came. Smallest fish was 15 inches and biggest was almost 17 inches!!! Below are piks of measuring stick. Didnt have scales in the boat but they were good ones and very thick too! Back on the subject now. My buddies hand poured plastics out performed store bought as we did not catch but one fish on store bought and it was a dink. The 3 inch baits were key! The big fish would NAIL EM! Had a great day on the water, it was a BLAST!!!

I can see JW's head swell'in bigger and bigger catching those slabs on his bait. LOL Good Job Guys nice fish.
-
Good job LP. Those are some nice slabs! Those pop-up storms usually get em in a frisky mood.
-
Those are some nice fish and the jig skirts do look good. I agree, at times the bigger profile baits will attract better fish.
-
Jigs look good ABH! Them some dandy fish. Good job guys

Thanks Slade for the invite to fish. It was the wildest fishing i have done it a while. The vortex cloud came in so quick we barely had time to put the boat too up. Instead of putting it up we used it as a barrier as the rain pelted us horizontally.
I was really impressed with the ulterra. That is one sweet machine there. It will be my next investment when my terrova breaks down. Unfortunately that won't be for a while since I just rebuilt the foot of it.
Was a great time catching back up since our last trip for sure. Glad we got to try my plastics too. My girls named the lucky plastic "peas and carrots" lol.
If you want to learn to make your own baits then visit the diy forum on here. You will find enough info to get started and the fellas are helpful. They are not gonna tell you everything and there is a learning curve. There is great satisfaction in knowing what you made is a producer. The sky is the limit so keep reaching for it.
