Last Saturday was my oldest son's birthday and we got to go on his annual birthday fishing trip this morning. We went to the Bell City Ditch and had a blast. He finally out fished me in numbers. He had 4 in the boat before I could catch my first one. I still got to rub it in catching the largest fish. We kept 9 sacs, 7 bass, 1 catfish. We threw back a few small sacs and goggle eyes. Fish would only bite on shiners today. I talked to to a couple of boats and they couldn't buy a bite. Around 1pm we heard thunder and we were about 8 miles south of the launch. When we pulled up the bottom fell out. It was raining sideways. We saw a tree break in half as we sat in the truck. After 45 minutes the wind slacked and I loaded the boat while it was still pouring down. The deck had 3 to 4 inches of water on it. The boat felt really heavy in the water. I decided to winch it up on the trailer instead of driving it on for fear of sinking. Its a steep launch and water was over my batteries once it was on the trailer. Next time I will put the bilge pump on while its pouring so that doesn't happen again.
