My wife and I made a trip to Florida to visit her ailing parents, I had recently gotten reacquainted (via facebook) with a old friend from 35ish years ago who is a sponsored tournament angler.....he invited me to go out fishing on his boat when I got there.
What you see is some of what he put me on for 2 days.
I can't wait to go back......I'm hooked!

Hey Steve, what is that green fish?
Green fish is a Dolphin I believe. If so, one of the best eating fish, but man they all look great. Hard to beat that kind of fishing unless you get seasick.

Put a fillet knife to that Dolphin and you got couple of fine meals right there. Especially fresh like that. Great pic's. Sure miss that kind of fishing.
Yes that is a dolphin and I am told it is one of the best eating fish in the ocean. As far as the seasickness goes.....I did for the first time ever get sick. I've fished on the Great Lakes for a long time and never got close to seasick. I guess the motion of the ocean is different than the wakes in the lakes. After hurling over the side of the boat, I made a rebound and was fine the rest of that day and the second day.

I fish in Oregon for Salmon in the fall. Last fall I got the chance to go further offshore (25 miles) for Tuna. I have never been seasick, but also not been in the kind of ocean that the North Pacific can be, so I got a prescription from my doctor for Transderm Scop motion sickness patch. It is a small patch you wear behind your ear. One patch last 2 or 3 days and you need to put it on a few hours ahead of time.
Now like I said, I've never been seasick going off shore 5 or 10 miles in the southern Atlantic and maybe I would not have been there either, but wearing the patch I never had a moments discomfort.
If you are prone to motion sickness, I highly recommend getting the patch. No fun being sick. There was just the 4 of us on a 26 foot SeaCat so there was no coming in if I got sick so I did not want to take the chance.

A lot of charter captain buddies of mine recommend one natural remedy. Ginger is one of the best things to ward off motion sickness. Most of my buddies recommend "Ginger Snap" candies.
I've never had an issue with sea sickness however I understand that it can be no fun. We had a rule on our big Lake Michigan fishing boat. If someone got sick, we would ask them if they would like to go in. We would tell them that they would not be letting others down of their decision. In most instances, after they "chummed" the water, they were fine for the rest of the trip. The three biggest things I've seen that make people sick. 1) laying down in the boat.... some love it, some think they might love it... some think it is a water bed... I say it is a quick way to get yourself to the side of the boat if you are not used to it. 2) sitting down for long extended periods... I think it has something to do with looking at the same spot over and over again. 3) confined areas... used to see a lot of people get sick after coming out of the onboard bathroom.
