I pulled cranks at Okatibbee this morning and kept 21. Several of the fish were full of some type of bug larvae or grass shrimp or something. They seem to enjoy it whatever it is. The little bodies have black eyes. Attachment 202927Attachment 202928

Looks like someone did a really bad job of trying to make a funnel cake, except those eyes...
Looks like some sort of shrimp
Dang, that's what my fish had in their bellies! Go figure. Lol
I didn't know we had them in our lake.
The pic came from the Florida forum?
I've never seen any in Sardis fish. According to this they range thru all MS.

Great info, thanks!
Fresh water shrimps.
I saw those last year while fishing Kentucky Lake and was told they were May Flies...I thought they looked like grass shrimp myself,,,
Scott; Thanks for sharing this post and pictures on pulling cranks. I have caught freshwater shrimp down here in clarke county while seining for minnows before.:twocents
I cleaned 21 and maybe 5 of them had been eating the grass shrimp. They looked like they were full of eggs, their bellies stuck out so much. Reminded me of some geezers I know. Lol
Hey hey.....I resemble that lol
HUmmm, Catch you some and boil em up Cuz
They may have been full of them shrimp but they still couldn't turn down that Fat crank bait.Congrats on your catch and good info!
First of all, nice catch Scott. Second, dang good observation, looks like some sort of grass shrimp to me also. Were you pulling thru or over some type of grass beds?
As far as I know there was no grass in the area. I was fishing several hundred yards from the bank. I scaled 6 fish and when cutting off their heads I exposed their stomach contents. Yesterday I fileted 11 and never cut into their stomachs. So I checked a couple and they had grass shrimp also. No telling how many I've fileted over the years without knowing they were full of them.
Saw this on FB and thought of ScottV.
