if you're willing to be the moderator of an Idaho board talk to Slab and maybe he'll fix you up.
Nothing in Idaho but Taters
I think in idaho Crappie are considered a trash fish. Everything there is Trout and Walleye and Salmon.
Yah, they love there planter trout, steelhead, salmon..... (ill fish for them, but not my favorite fish to eat)
Sturgeon fishing in big, but cant keep any. They seem to love there catfish too! (& thoes guys like to use the spiny rays/pan fish as bait.)
But there are quite a few guys like me that love to catch & eat Crappie, Perch, Bluegill...
& yes, Crappie are considered Non game fish & there is no limit on size or quantity.... Is it wrong that I feel that there should be limits on them here? xxxxx me off to see guys that catch hundreds at a time from 3" & up just to use for bate for sturgeon & catfish!

No way I would use crappie as bait. I would much rather eat crappie over catfish. Except for maybe flathead.
Me too.... any of the pan fish taste better than catfish. IMO
Makes for a poor fishery when crappie can be kept without limit on size or quantity. Its a shame to be so wasteful of such a tasty critter and a darn good little fighter.
3 inch crappie are sometimes best used as bait rather than thrown back.
Yeah nothing but potatoes haha
That looks like a nice haul! That one perch on the right is a PIG of a perch....
Nice looking dinner or 2 there.
Thanks for posting!
Some really beautiful fish there! I think we all need to support an Idaho branch here. Love those big perch too!
Not sure but, it would be interesting to see member numbers from all states . Curious to see how states stack up to others . :popcorn those are some nice crappie Shaymon 47 .:ThumbsUp
Had you rather have perch or crappie to eat? I know the perch are good also.
Adding Idaho to the state forums is doable ... just need a moderator.
Also ... notice that this thread was started a couple of years ago  ... so get the word out to other Idaho Crappie anglers and get them to become members, then your state will be added promptly.
Mmmmmm, yeller perch. I'll be through ID in a couple weeks, along the Salmon river Challis area.
I would have to go with the crappie actually. Hope to do some ice fishing for perch this winter. A good lake nearby (cascade resevoir) is boasting world record size perch year after year. And loozing at recent netting surveys they are growing big time.
I am not much of a crappie angler by any means I caught all those the other day with my dad while we were bass fishing and since then I have stared concentrating more on the resevoirs just for crappie. We caught those in a river actaully.
I know this thread is a couple years old but I’m a die hard crappie fisherman from Idaho be great to have a page dedicated to Idaho
Last year was a pretty bad year for me. I'm hoping to be able to get out and fish a little bit this year., but finances may not allow me to get out much. At the moment I'm still recovering from a leg surgery.
And let's face it crappie fishing over the last several years has gotten pretty bad. I mean my best day in the last 3 years has been 20 fish with two of us fishing. Usually having to troll for them. Which has always been unheard of basically. Used to be able to just cruise around find a school drop in and hit quite a few. Now it's one every hour or so. Almost no schools to be found. On rare occasions will find a small school but again that's not real often. I truly believe it is due to the overfishing.
Another part of it could be that I'm just too stupid to understand how to use these newer fish finders. But old school tactics should be able to get me on fish and it doesn't. If anybody is ever out somewhere and finds me, I would love it if you'd help me figure out how to use one of these newer finders. I just took a $200+ Garmin off my boat and threw it in the box back on the Shelf because I was so sick and tired of not understanding anything about it. It would tell me there was fish there and there wouldn't be a thing. The only reason I know this is cuz I asked somebody else that was close to us can you drive over this spot and tell me if yours actually is seeing something and they responded with no there are no fish on our finder whatsoever here. Other places where ours said there those guys were fishing and showing fish, I drove over and mine didn't show a thing. So needless to say like I said I pulled it off threw it on the shelf and that's the end of that one. So then I put on a hummingbird which I'm having a little better luck actually finding some fish but still don't understand how to use 98.999% of it. The only nice thing about the Garmin was that it did have a better Imaging. I'll have to admit honestly the most accurate and best fish finder I've ever had was a the bottomline species select. That thing was deadly accurate. If you're in the area of fish it told you there were fish. If there were no fish there were no fish. It was simple to use and you understood exactly what you were or weren't looking at. These new ones are so complicated you have to have a degree in rocket science or something. LOL
Well as previously stated, you all just need a moderator for your Idaho section. Someone to help when needed, keep an eye on things for the threads, making sure they conform to the Crappie.com rules. It's not hard or overly complicated. Decide then PM slab, and You'll have a dedicated page...Just my $0.02.
For me the past couple years have been great didn’t catch anything to huge but definitely caught a lot of crappie mostly on chatcolet lake and also rose lake and I totally get the frustration with electronics I don’t use any either they just don’t seem to be very effective I pretty much just use a bobber and a small jig head and gulp alive minnows always seems to work
Unfortunately a 200.00 dollar Garmin is not gonna be much of a fish finder, more of a how deep is the water. Most Garmins that are any good for seeing and finding fish will be close to 1,000.00 and up. Add a livescope and you're looking at close to 2500.00. Heck, a gt56 transducer is close to 500.00 dollars.
Don't give up. Get the best fish finder you can afford. Go to a BPS and look at all of them. See how much easier they are to use and see fish and structure the more they cost.
Caught 145 crappie the other day at Rose lake made for about 12 pounds of filets made for some real good eating last night
Nice and basically Idaho has no crappie restrictions, some lake specific?
From the Idaho Fish and Game site - Crappie creel limits are usually very liberal with no restrictions on size or bag limit, but check the rules for where you’re fishing. Crappie are a very prolific species, so taking a batch home to eat does no harm to the population.
Yeah around here we only have limits on so called "game fish" and I guess they don’t consider crappie as such although I very much think they should
straight,
A couple hundred dolar fish finder is the best I can afford..... this is my $3500 83 smokercraft 14'....
