Fishing Tommorrow - Cataract Surgon Referal Needed

The good news is I can fish tomorrow. The bad news is that my cataract surgery for 8:15 this morning couldn't happen due to administrative goof ups. I needed clearance from my primary care doctor and the eye clinic was supposed to take care of getting that or telling me to schedule an appointment with him. Yesterday they called saying that the primary doctor hadn't gotten back with them yet. They wanted his phone number and said "see you in the morning". The primary doc's nurse called me yesterday at 4:50pm saying that the eye doc was trying to get clearance and did I have their number. I knew right then that the surgery wasn't going to happen, but I fasted and went up to Lafayette anyway. Yep I was right. No surgery and putting drops 4 times a day for 3 days was a waste of time. Maybe the $125 worth of drops is wasted too.

Long story short they were apologetic and said a surgery counselor would call, but I don't believe I trust them enough now to reschedule. So if anyone can recommend another Lafayette clinic that would be good. It has to be one that accepts Medicare + supplement. Another person went home ahead of us with a similar story.

Head for the hills!! There are better run facilities I'm sure but I'm not familiar with Lafayette. If they can't get such a standard every day thing correct I would never trust them with my eyes.

I wouldn't trust those folks John. Dr. Richard Bourgeois did mine. He is part of the Lafayette General system. I recommend him.

Thanks Randy that's what I'm looking for.
Edit: Just gave them a call and the nurse is going to talk to the doctor about my situation and get back to me.

That really irritates me... Nothing worse than having to pay for someone elses incompetence.

had both of mine done 8 and 9 months ago by Dr. Barry in Little Rock at the Baptist Eye Center. Excellent doctor, excellent staff. No goof ups. Had toric lens put in for my astigmatism. I now have bionic eyes and can see fish on the bottom from 12 feet deep in muddy water - welllll, maybe no that deep :biggrin

Hey John I would find another place. Castration and Cataract are too close for a typo with their competency record.

I'd definitely go elsewhere! Would u consider baton rouge? If so, the "eye medical center" is where my dad had his done...he was satisfied!

No I would have a heart attack with my wife trying to drive. She hasn't done interstate in years.

Good, hope it works out. Let us know. He's excellent and well respected in the community. So well respected, he was King Gabriel in the 2014 Lafayette Marti Gras. He did me well, and I'm picky about such things. Plus, he's got the coolest magazines in his waiting room :)

Well Randy I finally got my first eye done today. I didn't get the doc you recommended do to schedule conflicts. I did get Dr Maria Bidros who is in the same office and she did a great job. Only on CDC can you get doctor referrals and fishing info too. Thanks again.

Looks like I'll be off the water for another 2 weeks with those drops. She makes it's sound like doing them in the boat would be germy. I have to take them 4 times a day because I won't go for a more expensive anti-biotic drop that's $160. Vision is great in the new eye already though.

those drops are a pain for sure....I did 220 drops in 30 days......small price to pay for the benefits you get out of it....you will love the results.....

Thirty days seems like a long time. That's 7.333 drops/day and I'm doing 12 drops/day so maybe I'll finish sooner. :) Did you ever do drops in the boat or did you just stay off the water for all that time?

Ann wouldn't let me cut wood, sand, mow the grass, etc. Even wouldn't let me take the boat out. She figured the jarring action, or the strain, would disturb the healing of the lens. Also figured I had to be absolutely clean when applying the drops. A hassle for sure since I stay active. I guess she's right in the long run, she knows what's better for me than I do myself. Best to be safe then sorry I guess.

How many days were you down for one eye?

stayed off the water....just not worth the risk of jarring the new lense out of place......

It dawned on me today that the 30 days and 220 drops must have been for both eyes. I was thinking in terms of only one eye which is why that seemed like a lot. I plan on waiting a while for the second eye as it's not so bad and I can't stand all that down time at once.

that was for one eye.....surgery took twice as long (30 min.) as normal so some precautions were taken.....all is well tho.....
