Can anyone help me out on a decent slab spot on Skiatook lake? Thanks in advance!
👆I'm wondering the same thing Scott. I know there are TONS of stumps to jig, but a specific location known for crappie would be nice to know
Also the water being so low, does anyone know if any or which boat ramps are closed?
There are no "Slab Spots". People who have brush piles catch some Crappie. In my opinion there are too many Hybrid Stripers in Skiatook for the Crappie population to flourish. I've never caught very many Crappie at all on any consistent basis. Fishermen hammer the bridges for Crappie. From the bank and in boats.
I would choose another lake for Crappie. Best of luck. Also, does the fishing report for Skiatook ever say "good" or "excellent" for Crappie? Rarely.
It was good over the winter. Once they left the deep piles, I dont know where they went, but I haven't looked yet either. There are plenty of creeks, sheltered spawning and timbered areas to try. You just have to get out there and do it. I cant imagine it would be too difficult, they have never seemed too picky on that lake.
Does anyone know of a boat ramp close to any flooded timber areas? I've heard turkey creek is a pretty good spot as well as black dog
I think Fishers has it covered, your going to have to go hunt them up!
Giving it a shot in the morning I'll let y'all know how we do
Hope you find them, and they want to bite!! I can usually accomplish 50% of the equation! LOL
Put in at black dog this morning and boy it looks like a crappie haven there. But we couldn't find em. Jigged about every tree in there. Caught a dink, Kentucky and sandie.
We had a family outing in the rain Sunday afternoon at Osage Park. Everyone got wet and muddy. There was a current that brought all kinds of debris drifting down the bank. Zero crappie, but the youngest grandson got two bass. The first bass came when he got his jig hung up on a stick-up, about two inches above the water. The bass hit the jig, freed the line, and was reeled in as Layne was whooping and hollering about catching a tree bass.
We are trying to put together a trip for this weekend, just a few CDC crappie fishing friends wanting to fish, who's in if it happens. WSD
I am gonna be on a spawning bluegill/redear hunt this weekend as the full moon is mid week, otherwise I would be in.
Redge - Can I help with a gallon?????:biggrin Well, at least I asked first:highfive
PJ101 - YOU ARE ALIVE!!!!!!! I am headed to a 2.50 acre pond to see what is hitting red wigglers on Sunday. American Horse has risen approx. 6 inches I have been told. The bass, crappie and who knows what else are getting pounded nonono. I am ordering some crickets on Monday to start my own assault on a couple of ponds. Send me a pm with your cell#.
Going to Lake Skiatook this Friday-Sunday and hope we can find a place to pitch a tent. The on-line reservation website show that both campgrounds are full for Friday and Saturday nights. Stoney Ridge Campgrounds may have a spot for us. Any information on fishing conditions? Anyone else going?
If you go to Skiatook Lake this weekend I would plan on a long wait to launch your boat. Besides all the campers, just as many recreational boats come to ski, jet ski, swim and party for the day. Next, add in all the bass tournaments that start launching really early. And consider all the boats that will be on the lake from the 2 Marinas there.
If you are familiar with activity on Grand, it's 46,500 acres. Skiatook is 10,500 acres and will have just about as much activity, especially this weekend. It will resemble the 4th of July. I lived in Bartlesville most of my life, my Mom had a boat slip at Crystal Bay (private launch) from 2004-2012. I wouldn't go there this weekend if I were paid.
If you do go, please report back on how close my predictions turn out. And best of luck. When we try to Crappie fish over about 10' deep we catch some good Hybrids. And get lines broken.
Thanks r7hunter. I may need to reconsider. Going thru Crappie fishin' anxiety! Looking for a place to fish....
Check out the various city lakes like Bixoma, Claremore, Chandler, ect. They usually are constructed on watersheds that dont "mud up" and are not made for flood control so the high water levels are not extreme like the main lakes in our area.
Not a lot of options so I took my grandsons to Skiatook to chase hybrids yesterday. It was a good decision tho I didn't get much chance to fish! I cleaned fish for an hour once the rodeo was over and I never heard two boys say thank you that many times in my life. As always I wish I had taken the time to take more pictures.
Atta boy George!
Wow! You guys did great. Good for you, looks like they, not to mention you, had a good time.
