Expect a much improved view, due to the screen size. Did you do the transducer exchange? If not, it may be something to consider. With the 859 you will have the ability to connect to other units, share waypoints, etc.
No exchange on the DI. Should see much improved from what you are used to because of screen size.
Sorry for all the questions but i do have one more. Let's say I keep my 597 may sell it but let's say I keep it. Could I use it on the bow right next to the 859 for just mapping and have it on mapping at all times with no transducer connected to it when I'm fishing from the bow. If so how is it done? Is there a splitter for the power connection?
All you would need to run mapping only would be the power cable, right?
Correct ...power cable is all that is needed to run the unit as a GPS chart plotter ...

The 859ci HD DI stock xducer (XNT 9 DI T transom mount) can be exchanged for the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T trolling motor mount ...
*XNT 9 DI T = 200kHz 16°/455kHz 25° 2d and 455kHz 75°/800kHz 45° DI
*XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T = 200kHz 20°/83kHz 60° 2d and 455kHz 75°/800kHz 45° DI
Same DI piezo in both ... Different 2d piezos ...
Rickie
DI will be the same ...
2d in the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T would cover a bigger area under the boat ...
Remember the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T is a TM puck ...XNT 9 DI T is a transom mount ...

rnvic. Thanks for all your help. Got home fri and installed the new unit. Everyone has been telling me that it was just a plug and play so to speak from old 597ci hd di to this new unit so i am using the same power cable and transducer that came with the 597. Powered the unit up it passed self test and everything. Have been hearing a lot about trolling motor interference so i wanted to check and see if I had any. So I dropped the Xi5 and hit the prop button and let me tell you it was like the 4th of July :bang head. Trolling motor interference in a big way. This was never an issue with my 597 even with the 597 snd my 999 running at the same time I never had any type of interference. The noise filter on the unit is on high 3 and it helped the 2d image so but not at all for the DI image. So I took it to the lake anyway thinking well at least I could still see my brush in 2d and it is a new unit so I wanted to play around with it. 1st spot on my 999 where I known there is brush because it is a DNR brush pile. Brush shows up as all way drop marker moved to the front trun on the 859 and nothing I could just make out the bottom Picture looked like well you know the 4 letter word. Even turned off the 999 to make sure there was no cross talk. I am very disappointed in this unit at this point. If I can not get it fixed I will be going back to my old 597 and someone will have them a 859 with 5hrs on it. I know this is a lengthy explanation but someone please help!!!!!!
It is not uncommon for the higher end units to pick up stray interference more than the smaller units ... They're just that much more sensitive ...
I would 1st remove the xducer from the TM and test it on the other side of the boat away from the TM ...
If the interference goes away ... We know the interference is getting in thru the xducer housing or the cable close to the xducer housing ...
Once we determine if this is the case ... We will have a path forward to hopefully eliminate the issue and make your 859 the unit you expect it to be ...

rf. noise can be really be a pain to get figured out.u can fix your issue tho..ive run the 597hd/di unit, with transducer mounted on motorguide digital tour with very good results and now have an onix10 with transducer mounted on an motorguide xi5 and still get good results.i use no chokes / ferrite rings.i do have skeg grounded tho.(Humminbird makes a trolling motor choke that some say works).I don't think there's anything wrong with your unit. Those filter settings, u mentioned. I've never had much luck with them. For me, the answer was sending the noise to ground in the water.good luck with your units.(u can stop the rf.) Keep in touch with rickie,he'll help get u going☺☺☺
Rickie did just as u stated. Took the transducer off of the foot of the trolling motor as far as I could. Turned on the unit and the Xi5 the prop was moving very slowly. And wouldn't you know it no interference I could even put it as close as a 1/4 of an inch to the trolling motor foot with no interference but as so as I touch it to the trolling motor foot it lights up like a Christmas tree. Tried it with the 859's noise filter on off and high 3
Haven't some people had luck putting a piece of rubber between the TM and the transducer to keep them separate?
This is indication that the interference is definately getting in the xducer or its cable ... (so the HB unit power wire fixes may not be necessary) ...
Inspect the xducer very carefully for nicks that could allow RFI an easy access in the cable ...
*Grounding the TM skeg to the HB unit negative cable is one possible fix ...
*Adding a ferrite ring on the xducer cable right before the head unit might arrest the RFI before it gets to the head unit ...
I suggest calling HB with the information you have about your confirmed test and see what steps they suggest ...

Isnt the puck transducer meant for the tm shielded differently?
Called hummingbird today they are going to send some rings out. All so I will be picking up some air hose and 18 gauge wire so I can ground the motor. Will keep you guys posted. Thank you all for your help!!!
Learn something new every day!! Usually forget something old tho too.....
That's actually a good comparison shot from the DI image of the same structure ...
Some suggestions ... :
*Lower Range in manual is good ... But set it closer to 2-3ft below actual water depth ... This will make less displayed bottom on the display ...and structure in the water column will display bigger ...(this works in the DI image also) ...
*Crank the Chart Speed up in 2d ... (This is a global setting which will have to be slowed back down for DI/SI) ...
*Switchfire Clear mode and raise Sensitivity until there is just a little clutter on the screen ...
And try the other palette choices to see if one of the others looks better to your eyes ...
Another trick that's a little less handy is to set the "Transducer Select" menu to "Dual Beam" to get the maximum amount of ping dedication to the 2d transmitter ...

In those pictures u posted, we're there times the trolling motor was off? Or did the trolling motor run continually throughout the shot? (Surface clutter settings and switch fire settings along with ferrite rings/chokes, are all filters)
Here's a shot from my 597hd/di, while trolling motor is running, with transducer mounted on the trolling motor...http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...psab132bf7.jpg
Kosmo thanks for the input you are full of great info. My Xi5 was running all the way through both shots. Before I got this 859ci hd di. I also had or still have a 597ci hd di and it has been a good unit for me. It and my 999ci hd si unit are great it is just this unit is giving me all kinds of trouble. With my 597 I was getting shots like this. Though it would be the same with the 859 just bigger and better boy was I wrong!!!!!!!!!
Rickie I got it!!!!!! Changed the transducer to the wide trolling motor version. And no more interference that thing is magic. Went down to the lake to test but no pic. Will be going out in the morning I will have some then. I do need to run it on 200 83 di for the transducer select correct? Thanks again to all that helped and a special thanks to you Rickie. If there is anything I can ever do for you drop me a PM. I now have a 597ci hd di for sale.
Just saw your post. Wow; the only problem I have with mine is deciding what views to hide. Never had a problem with my units. In safe water I run the 999 and 859 to search without issue. Did you get it figured out?
Those look great bean ...
The only thing I might add is to set the "Lower Range" to a manual setting just a few feet below the water depth to show less bottom and more water column ...(2d and DI view) ...
This will also effectively "Zoom"'the echo targets in the water column because you will be stretching the echoes down vertically thru the screen thru more pixels ...
