Fished Cedar today. Brought home a limit. fish were staging close to mouth of cove. Fished all morning where I thought fish ought to be (shallow) caught 1 small crappie, one tagged trout and one bluegill. Moved after lunch and found these in 12fow and I caught them from 3 ft to six ft deep under cork with minnows. Big fish today was 2.2lbs, almost 16" long...female full of eggs. All 18 females were full of eggs.

Thanks for the info Tiger. I was there also fishing the shallows . And probably talked to you that morning. I just wasn't smart enough to move and came home after just catching a few small ones.

looks like a good mess of fish catchem on minnows or jigs
all were caught on Minnows. Last friday caught 13 keepers and 40dinks (4-5inches). They were everywhere I fished and it made no difference the depth
Since there's no size limit ... what cutoff length were you calling "keepers" ?Quote:

CrappiePappy, I am keeping 8 inchers or better. The dinks last friday were 5 inchers mainly and there were plenty of them. I saw one boat with two guys throwing grubtails that were catching 5 inchers every cast at whatever depth they tried. I am glad to see them too, but they sure do a number on your minnow stock. I fished 100 minnows between 9am and 1:30pm and only brought home 13. two of them were 12 inchers full of eggs. The eggs were NOT read to drop yet.

Those that haven't spawned, may do so over the next few days ... or the water is likely to get too hot for them, if they wait much longer.
I quit going down there very much, because the size of the Crappie wasn't increasing (years ago), but may have to give it a shot, now that they seem to have finally caught up to a normal growth rate. Please keep me informed about what they're doing, if/when you go.

I caught 45 crappie at GRL this past weekend. All of them but three had eggs at different stages from bright yellow to milky yellow.
Having said that, what does an egg sack look like before or getting ready to spawn by a crappie?
I've always understood it to be : bright yellow is "not quite ready" & orange is "ready to lay" & dark orange to an orange/brown color is "dead" & being absorbed.Quote:

I see some White Crappie, and some that might even be hybrid Crappie, in your picture :yikes
Ain't supposed to be anything but Black Crappie (& a few Blacknose) in Cedar Creek !!
